At Rafael Devers' current age Pablo Sandoval had slightly better numbers than Devers to date.

A wide range of outcomes awaits.

Plus, that trade, IMO, just happened to be one of the best trades the Sox have ever made, so there is that component to the deal.

NO.

When you're a fan of a team who hasn't made the playoffs in 19 years, you end up being a dark cloud on a sunny day.

Not to mention they have never won a post-season series and only won a total of 6 post-season games in franchise history...

Despite getting absolutely nothing in return...

That's what makes the trade so fascinating.

I rank it as a top 3 Sox trade of all time.

You keep bringing him up as about the worst case scenario possible.

Yes, much can happen, but your mentioning Pablito so often seems to indicate you see this as Raphael's path.

Or not.

To be precise, the Seattle Mariners have won three postseason series (and 15 postseason games overall):

The underdog is easy to cheer for.

Or not.:)

Strange fact: Zach Davies and Ljay Newsome, the starters in Wednesday's Cactus League game between the Chicago Cubs and the Seattle Mariners, were each drafted in the 26th round with the 785th pick, Davies in 2011 and and Newsome in 2015.

Even Beckett was pretty cooked, and only in the second year of a $68 Million dollar extension! Imagine GMs passing out Eovaldi contracts TEN YEARS AGO... to a pitcher in his 30s!

It's why they had to include AGon.

Only to counter the wild best-case scenarios to provide a range without adopting one projection.

The Beckett/Lowell trade is fascinating. We did have to give up the prime years of Hanley Ramirez, and Anibal Sanchez had some big years as well.

Right, Gonzo was only in the second year of his Sox contract for $154 million.

Crawford was also in the second year of his Sox contract for $142 million.

Why can't we sign guys like that? (Bloom just read this and threw up in his mouth)

This may be hindsight, but what if instead of signing Beckett, Crawford and Gonzalez, the Red Sox offered Mrs. Betts' teenage son their combined $364 Million? Do you think Mookie would've signed then? Probably not... he was always betting on himself to sprint under the toasty warmth of sun-splashed palm trees...

@jcmccaffrey

In regards to Dalbec hitting 30 or more homers, no Red Sox rookie has ever hit more than 34, that was Walt Droppo in 1950. Ted Williams hit 31 in his rookie season in 1939 and Nomar Garciaparra hit 30 in 1997. That's it. Just three Red Sox rookies with 30 or more homers.

Dalbec hitting 35.

Can't really argue, but I still have the CC dump at #3.

I loved the OCab deal, but it was for just 3 months. (maybe #7)

Beckett & Lowell helped bring us the 2007 ring, but we gave up a lot (Maybe #6).

The Schill trade was very nice, but DLR did put up a 107 ERA+ in his first 4 years w COL. (111 year 2-4). Schill's playoff heroics will never be forgotten. (#4 or 5)

Chris Freakin' Sale! What can I say? We gave up a lot, but the jury is still out on them. (#4- maybe 5, but I'd say ahead of Schill.)

It's like raaaaaii-aaainnn, nope just harmoney...

Until I just half-heartedly projected ROY for Dalbec, who has been projecting greatness?

I'm not sure a countering view was needed, but let the rains begin.

In November an astute poster offered a favorable Bobby Dalbec comp to 2020 AL Rookie of the Year Kyle Lewis:

So, you've brought up the Pablito comp 3 dozen times to counter that one post hardly anyone read or agreed with?

Let the rains begin.

I was arguing vociferously against trading him this offseason. I think you had him in a few of your trade ideas.

Let the rains begin.

Through the offseason Rafael Devers has been a more frequent topic than Bobby Dalbec.

Objective responses to bias on a Red Sox forum will counter a pro-Red Sox bias more frequently than other biases.

It's not practical to track down all posts that reflect objectively but here is another example:

Kyle Lewis is Pablito. Pablito is Kyle Lewis.

You could be right.

Or not.

Kyle Lewis could be replaced in the Seattle outfield by Top 100 prospects Julio Rodriguez, Jarred Kelenic and Taylor Trammell (the latter two homered today).
