Sox PR sending out signals that they aren’t signing another OF this offseason.

So, does that mean Chavis or Duran is our 4th OF'er?

Is Renfroe really who we want in RF- full time?

Maybe, it means we trade for 1 or 2.

Chavis/Puello

I'm not the biggest Theo fan, mainly due to so many here worship him.

But to bring the World Championship to the Sox and the Cubs, well that speaks volumes about his leadership. You can't take that away from him. He has a great baseball mind even with his faults. He was not perfect but who is? No doubt a Hall of Famer.

From where?

I would think they have to, because right now we have only 3 outfielders and one of them is reportedly going to be dealt within the next 3 days.

The list:

Trout

Bellinger

Springer

Verdugo

Nimmo

Lewis

Laureano

Grisham

Marte

Buxton

The video on Verdugo:

https://www.mlb.com/video/search?q=ContentTags%20%3D%20%5B%22mlbn-top10%22%5D%20Order%20by%20Timestamp%20DESC

Basically, they say he's likely to play CF this year, that he played CF in 18-19 and that he could hit in the middle of any order.

Who cares what MLB.com says?

they have Springer at number 3, and no one even knows where he will be playing this year. If he signs with one of these teams (like the Mets, who have repeatedly been attached to him), they have Nimmo on this list already. Will they both play CF?

Watching the segment on TV, one expert had JBJ 7th but no Verdugo...

I'm on the verge of calling this the turned-offseason.

Can you provide us with the list of approved topics to discuss? There's not much else to chit chat about over here.

I'm thinking it's the offseason of delayed gratification...sure hope the gratification shows up. :)

Maybe he still has Verdugo as a RF?

I don't mind the speculation, but I would like to know where the whole "Sox are not signing any outfielders" comes from.

I wonder if they do a best RF list, will Verdugo also be on that?

Oh God please no.

Granted, Renfroe is better than anyone he brought in for 2020, since at least Renfroe can be considered a starting OF. But so far his only pitching additions (Andriese and Gossett) fit right in with last year's cast of castoffs...

Even if they are right, who play RF? And LF if Benintedi actually does get traded?

Renfroe can handle one position, but then what? Cesar Puello? Puello is a bench player at best, and only a starter on a tanking team. And that is coming from his biggest (re: only) supporter...

If Beni is traded, they'll need another guy. I wonder if the talk about trading Beni is just smokescreen for them moonwalking through FA so far?

Janky ass = new one on me.

Did some research on it.

July 27, 2015

Word of the Week: Janky

Janky: Of extremely poor or unreliable quality. U.S. slang (chiefly African-American); earliest citations are from the early 1990s. Sometimes intensified as janky-ass or truncated as jank.

Janky was one of a clutch of words added to OxfordDictionaries.com in February 2015. (Other additions included vishing, McTwist, and teachable moment.) The word’s origin is murky; the more comprehensive Oxford English Dictionary says it’s “probably” a regional, affected, or colloquial pronunciation of junky. Juba to Jive: A Dictionary of African-American Slang, published in 1994, classifies it as a noun meaning “bad luck,” and says it’s “probably” a variant of jinxed.

But Doppler radar predicts affront this weekend, at least flurries -- if we can trust the European model...

Why bother with the smokescreen? Only like 4 teams have been active, and all of them for short, hyperactive stretches only.

I am not so sure Bloom or any GM is as obsessed with the timing of moves as much as us fans are. Or if he is, it's not in the same way...

I'm not saying Bloom is adding the smokescreen. I don't think he cares about that kind of stuff. This ownership group is very concerned with PR though.

IDK, it's just a conspiracy I have right now. Probably wrong.

This is a great point, and one we can only assume was on hold while the MLB waited on Manfred and the Covid-influenced schedule. Now that '21 intends to be a full season -- with Spring Training less than a month away -- there has to be an avalanche of moves by all teams that care.

There better be an increase in moves or ownership will be in trouble in the next CBA, especially if everyone is anticipating a full season.

If the ownership group is concerned about PR, they should be well aware the best way to create any positive PR would be to spend some $$$ on a couple free agents to improve the team. Fans like nothing more than hearing money is not going to be an obstacle to success...

The conundrum is, they don't much like the big FA busts later on either...

Maybe the inference is we are trading for an OF'er (two if we deal Beni).

In many of our recent cases, they don't like the big FA busts in year one.

True.

Chalk me up as one who gets overly critical of many FA signings. But sometimes I will admit the failure is on the part of the player and not on the notion of bringing him to Boston. Carl Crawford was a massive flop, but I did understand why they signed him. Or at least I had my own completely unsupported theory as to why the move made sense...

Should have signed Jayson Werth rather than a second CFer.
