Is Roenicke just playing out the season without any care how we play before he rides off into the sunset and calls it a career?

Really can't see Roenicke coming back. His team has no energy and I don't think he is the personality to bring it. Some of these deadheads need a rude awakening, hitters and pitchers

Is there a manager anywhere in baseball history who can win when handed a team with Ryan Weber as the #3 starter?

I agree that the pitching is very weak and winning will be tough, but what about our vaunted offense? At least for now, only a few players look like ML hitters.

As fans we're disappointed, but it's also important to remember these are young guys struggling in a confusing and even dangerous time. Players like Devers and Benintendi are good major leaguers in current funks, but imagine how much harder it is for coaches or teammates to help them out with instructive words of encouragement behind masks (I speak from experience as a Little League coach this summer). Other factors that could affect motivation may include the non-competitive pitching, the absence of energetic personalities like Betts and Cora, and even the now-restricted tech contributions of video guru JD Martinez.

None of this is Roenicke's fault... but you can't fire the players.

Plus the fact that our pitching staff is almost entirely a collection of what dgalehouse calls 'ham and eggers'. It's a team with no chance, on top of all the other difficulties you quite rightly pointed out.

I don't buy giving excuses to major league players who don't get it done. I don't blame Roenicke for players not doing their part. I do blame him when he makes bad decisions, but there are not enough incidences yet to form an opinion. The management probably will look for a replacement this off season. Oh, you can get rid of players who don't perform. Just have to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Hopefully the look will include Alex Cora.

As much as I agree, Bloom has no history with Cora, and it doesn't fit the narrative of seeking a clean break from the Dombrowski era. If Cora does come back as soon as '21, it would be have to be an edict from above -- remember the owners' outpouring of love when they agreed to part ways. But since '21 will most likely be a rebuilding bridge, it would make sense they'd let Bloom bring in his own people.

However, Bloom wasn't hired to get rid of Cora (like Price and Betts), so when/if ticket sales and interest compel ownership to start splurging again on star power, don't be surprised if Cora is part of the recruitment drive.

Brice throws 2 scoreless innings... you take him out and NY scores 5....SMH

To be precise, Austin Brice pitched one scoreless inning, walking two while throwing 29 pitches.

Brice most likely was a planned opener.

One year ago today, those ever-innovative Tampa Bay Rays changed the game again by reintroducing the concept of "the opener" to baseball. On May 19, they gave Sergio Romo his first career start, after his first 588 games came in relief. Romo struck out Zack Cozart, Mike Trout, and Justin

Good to know RR actually has a plan.

Oh my bad, I thought he pitched 2.....Im not sure if he was a scheduled opener but either way.....I thought he looked sharp in the first inning....The ump was giving him no calls and he still got out of that inning scoreless.....I dont think it was broken, so why fix it.....Cant just be a robot and say oh hes only the opener anyway and take him out....Ic hes pitching good, leave him in!

His team has no PITCHING

Sox ERA is now worst in MLB, WHIP is 2d worst, and the Sox have given up the second most dingers.

Last night, game 10, was the perfect example of the problem. Sox hitters kept getting a lead that the pitchers would give back, culminating in Barnes giving up the tying run in the 8th, followed by giving up a 2 run dinger for the winning runs. Sox lost 9-7.
