What does that mean ...that he has been restricted to bedrest for all this time?

They didn’t clarify. If he was relegated to virtual bed rest, then that entails the concern about cardiac stress worsening the condition. Maybe they were just being careful, but that does raise suspicion that he suffered a rather significant loss in function and now he’s showing signs of it returning. That doesn’t impart the news of a normal offseason. That imparts the news that he should be able to live a near normal life in the short term for the average human. They may be predicting a full return of function, but how scary must that have been for the kid? I feel for him. Here’s to hoping he can return

Should the Red Sox tender Eduardo Rodriguez a contract as a measure of good will?

Much could depend on the medical updates between now and December 2.

I am very confident in saying the Sox will tender Eduardo a contract.

Book it.

I am pretty sure he wasn't on bed rest.

The report from ERod after meeting with his doctors is that he expects to have a normal offseason.

I hope so. That report about being cleared to walk certainly raised my eyebrows.

Has lefthander Eduardo Rodriguez appeared in a recorded interview since being shut down in July? The media reports in the past month quote second-hand sources who apparently have spoken with Rodriguez. The most positive prognosis has come from the lefthander’s agent, who might not be the most objective source.

The Red Sox have only 45 days to decide whether to tender a contract to Rodriguez, who is projected to earn $8.3 million as a 28-year-old in his final year of team control. The tender decision should depend on medical updates between now and December 2.

A week ago the Boston Globe reported that Rodriguez "had more than two months of total inactivity leading up to his reexamination in Boston in late September. As of that time, the team anticipated that in a best-case scenario, it wouldn’t be until at least mid-October that he could start engaging in light exercise on a treadmill."

We should all hope for a full recovery but we tend to accept the most positive health news regarding a person we care about. The public does not have access to Rodriguez's medical records (nor should we) but the apparent lack of direct information from Rodriguez is cause for some skepticism.

The next six-plus weeks could be interesting.

He’ll get a tender.

The Sox aren’t going to try to save $8-9 mil gambling he won’t pitch. They really need to be taking a few gambles.

If he doesn’t get a tender, it’s because the situation is worse than we’re hearing...

Also, arbitration contracts are not fully guaranteed. Player can be cut before end of spring training and receive only a fraction of salary.

This could be a rare case where that comes into play, if a health concern is heightened by then.

One of the first quotes we'll hear from new old manager Cora: "We need to take care of Eddie and make sure he's ok; that's our first priority."

Good point.

I think the Sox management has to be committed to helping E-Rod regain his strength and health. To non-tender or release him would be heartless and a very bad look for the organization.

If they know he cannot play, there's nothing heartless about non tendering him.

Well, it would be heartless in the way that many business decisions are. The question is whether any other team would do differently, and I don't think any would.

It is a business. ERod has made millions, already- not that it matters.

Nobody will think any less of the Sox, if the non tender a player unable to play.

If that's true, the whole NFL is heartless.

The Royals did it with Greg Holland in his final arb year in which he was recovering from TJ.

If the Sox tender ERod and he still cannot pitch in 2021, he’s still testing the market. The goodwill is going to get them nowhere...

The whole NFL is heartless if it's false!
