They were never willing to pay him the second highest salary in baseball when they had his rights, but now that hes gone, they would be willing to pay him the second highest salary in baseball?

They traded him to the Dodgers, a team more than willing to pay those types of salaries regardless of luxury tax. He is not coming back.

Agreed. I’ve said more than enough about it the last week or so. He’s not coming back. I’m going to miss him. I’m glad it’s finally over.

You have got to be f***ing kidding. Mookie wants to be a free agent and become the highest paid athlete EVER in any sport! He wants to make more money than the entire XFL!!
Yup, I pretty much said that already.

The Sox have already made outrageous offers to him. The Red Sox did not become one of the highest spending teams in history by shortchanging players.

Not true. They were reported to be 100 million apart.

And the Dodgers are going to pay him? Mookie asked for 10 years. Name one Dodger player EVER to get a deal like that. In fact, name the Dodger with the longest contract (hint: Yasiel Sierra)
Name one Dodger EVER to be in line for this type of payday. You can't, these contracts are unprecedented.

Mookie is hitting the market. Book it. It’s what he has wanted all along and he has never kept that a secret. And the high soaring Red Sox check-writers just reset the tax penalties right on time..
Yup. But he also JUST said that he wanted to stay in Boston. So which one is it? Either way, he is not coming back, reset or not.

Only $3mill more towards the tax. But also freed up a place to accommodate the only free agent left capable of making an impact...

I don't think the tax will be an issue in 2020. We're enough under now and won't be in it at the deadline, so we won't be dealing to add salary. (IMO)

... which is why I added Puig..

Puig's stock has really fallen. He could be the best bargain signing of the winter.

I've said for a long time, I don't want him, but a 1 year deal can't hurt.

Having Yasiel Puig on your team can always hurt.

The Sox offered $300million. I think that they were $100 mill apart says more about Betts than Boston. And don’t fall for “but I wanted to stay in Boston” crap. The Red Sox offered him $300 million dollars. That’s life changing money. And really, maybe he’s worth more but if he REALLY wanted the Red Sox, I think he could have made it work for $300 million.

The Dodgers aren’t resigning Betts. Cody Bellinger is right behind him. The Red Sox might not resign him, but they have a great chance now...

Why should he "make it work" for 300, when he can get 400? You think he should take 100 MILLION DOLLARS less because fans in Boston realllllllly like him????? HAHAHA GTFO

Love all the budget hawks on here worrying about Henry’s wallet.

I love all the guys who said money didn't matter and the cliff was a joke.

Money still doesn’t matter. Henry is ripping you off. They’ll win more games in 20 than 19. Not a cliff.

LOL. Henry is the greatest thing that ever happened to the Sox. If this is ripping us off, I shutter to think what they were doing to us for decades beforehand.

No way should any owner pay Betts $60+M a year after taxes, whether they can afford it or not.

2019 was part of the cliff, and so will 2020. I'm hopeful we kept it to just 2 years.

We have some enticing pieces we could package for a starter.

But Hang'em Chaim looks like he wants to do the opener thing with us in 2020.

I doubt we trade prospects for a SP'er, unless the guy has 3+ years of team control (hopefully 4+ at pre-arb or arb costs).

What's the best starter we could get for JBJ and Workman? Matz?

I think Bloom will add some pieces before opening day. If not, the season will be an obvious tank and ticket sales will suffer.

This is how I know you’re full of it. The 2019 team had the same roster as 108 win 2018 except for Joe Kelly and Craig Kimbrel. Those two have zero to do with a cliff. You’ve used the cliff as a boogeyman to further all your weak arguments.

yup. but in a "rebuild" season it could be entertainment?

Not happening.

Chaim needs to devote remaining resources to pitching.
