While looking at other Sox:

JBJ 11 HR's vs BAL, 10 HR's at Camden

Orioles should want to sign JBJ.

JBj got a plaque on Eutaw with the big boys.....

He’s also robbed quite a few homers at Camden, including that one on Mancini last season.

That was an amazing catch! He has a ton of great catches, and that one is one of his best.

Yeah of all the great plays he's made in the OF, that one may have been his best. Literally saved a walk off homer in extra innings and he timed that perfectly.

It’s Camden Yards. Even Manny Ramirez robbed home runs there. And even high fives a fan while doing so....

Rumor is that the Dodgers are working on a 10 year 350/400 extension.

If Mookie gets that extension with the Dodgers then very good for him!

Not a good move on the Dodgers' part, IMO, and I'm surprised that they are willing to do that right now, but I'm happy for Mookie that he will get that huge deal.

Trading him to the Dodgers was always going to bring in the possibility of him signing an extension. No team was better set up to do it.

I wonder if he would have signed the extension if there were no pandemic.

It might be a smart time for them to do it. With the COVID-19 cloud hanging, they might actual get a lower price than he could get later.

And I do know how absurd that sounds when we're talking that much money...

We don't want Mookie for that deal.

I want Mookie for that deal. I understand that my viewpoint is in the minority. I think Mookie is the type of player that will make that contract worthwhile.

That's a possibility, I guess. I'm thinking the Dodgers could have gotten him for less.

It makes me think that Sox ownership really didn't have an interest in signing a contract that large. I get the argument, I just disagree with it. Oh well. I wish he signed the extension months ago so that the bandaid could be pulled off all at once.

At least we'll have actual baseball to talk about real soon. Hasn't been much good stuff to talk about with this team for a long while.

Yeah, the only bright spot for Sox fans is that it frees up a stack of money to spend on pitching over the next few years.

350 would feel like a bit of a discount.

400 not so much.

Bauer/Stroman/Minor/Odorizzi/Ray/Tanaka/Quintana/Paxton

Bauer is the only guy I'd open up my checkbook to.

The Sox offered Mookie $300 million. He countered with $420 million. I disagree that the Sox really didn't have an interest in signing that large of a contract.

2022 looks to have more available starters, but that's far enough away that we can't project who will actually be available.

In these uncertain times especially, $350 sounds like an overpay to me. A pretty big one, actually.

And there are no reports of the Sox going back to Mookie with more than $300. Seems like they were just doing lip service IMO.

Or maybe the Sox felt that Mookie's counter of $420 was so outrageous that they didn't bother.

Perhaps it was Mookie who wasn't serious about staying with the Sox?

We may never know.

This whole news makes me ill. Betts is the best all-around homegrown Red Sox player since the draft began -- that's over half a century. If he's not the guy a rich team pays market value to keep for his entire Hall of Fame career, then no one is. I'll change the channel the day Cooperstown unveils his bronze plaque with an LA cap.

Mookie is a role model for kids and a face of the franchise. Instead, we get to free up money to bid for the Trevor Bauers of the world -- Bauer, a guy who got pissed on the mound, turned around and threw the ball over the centerfield fence. The best Boston manager of all-time traded him the very next day...

Jeff Passan reports that Betts and the Dodgers are finalizing a deal that would see him play with the Dodgers for 13 years worth more than 380 millions.

It takes two to dance.....Betts turned us down.....there will be others...
