In the Agon trade we didn't give up a player as good as Mookie Betts.

True, and we dumped two big contracts.

All I know is a bunch of people said there was no way the Dodgers would take on so much salary again.

I hate losing Betts, don't get me wrong, but we got something for him and we set up our budget nicely for 3 years.

It wasn't what we got back in trade that made that deal net us a ring in 2013, it was the budget space opened up that allowed us to sign Napoli, Vic and others.

I don't think I'll ever forget this moment... and many others from Mookie. What a great player he was and what a career he had. I wish him the best in LA, If Sox aren't competitive I now who I'll be pulling for..

So they wouldn't want to pay this year, but will be fine paying next year? I really really doubt Mookie is ever back in Boston.

He'll return as a visitor. Trading him is a nail in the coffin.

Yup. I understand being optimistic and wanting it to happen.. I hope it happens, but the chances of that are slim to none.

Mookie wanted to go to free agency.

If we signed Mookie this year, we'd pay a 50% tax for this year and several more to follow.

Certainly resetting gives us the best chance we could ever hope for in keeping Betts here.

To me, it's all about the Dodgers extending him or not.

If they don't we have better than "slim odds."

I'm not sure we want to pay, but the reset is the only way it could ever happen. Let's not pretend we had a better chance at keeping Betts by trying to sign him this winter or after he played out 2020 without the Sox resetting.

Not even close. This time we traded a superstar MVP in his prime. And we threw in Price who if healthy will probably have a very big year for the Dodgers.

Graterol only 21 and throws 100MPH. I like it.

Wait and see. We had so many of that 100MPH arms. Hanson, Bard, De La Rosa, Webber. Did you like any of them?

This guy has a decent BB/9 rate and has K'd over 1 per IP at every level, so let's give the guy a shot.

That's Anna in the Wahoos hat. It was her job to escort Brusdar Graterol back to the clubhouse after our team autograph session. He refused to leave until he signed for every fan waiting.

This picture was taken 30 minutes after the signing ended.

You got a good one, Boston.

Where does Verdugo stands as far as his injuries last year?

He hopes to be ready for opening day.... hopes... a much longer heal than expected

Seems like a reasonable deal. Will Mookie sign an extension will soon be a new story, of course.

If he signs a $420M/10 extension, we'll know we were never going to pay that anyways, so in a way, it will make the deal look better, to me.

It will pain me deeply to know he ain't coming back.

Or he could be headed for TJ surgery before he gets to Fenway.

I'm disappointed in that we didn't get back any minors prospects as was predicted in many media reports

We would have had we not included Price.

Then keep Price. He’s worth a lot to the Sox if they want to be competitive.

Hint: they don’t want to be.

Who is Webber? De La Rosa helped get Schilling who helped break the curse. Bard was really good until he couldn't throw strikes. They ruined Hanson by throwing him there too soon.

Disappointed. We traded our best player in decades for a guy with no allstar upside while also needing to pay 1/2 of Price deal.

He probably meant Allen Webster.

i don’t know if they don’t want to be competitive in 2020, but it looks like a throw in the towel move.
