Typical superficial analysis.

Sorry. Next time I’ll use deep analysis and respond with “apples and oranges” and nothing else...

Typical faulty logic

For someone who criticizes superficial logic, you sure do like to say “wrong!!!” and then not explain anything.

For someone who says Americans have lost the art of debate, you clearly epitomize your own criticism...

Are you capable of "deep analysis"?

Looking at our last 4 posts, I’m clearly the more likely of the two of us.

I broke down the flaws in assuming Kennedy has a clue and established the flaws in just using incorrect cliches. You posted 6 words that merely that said “wrong” and implied you were the deep thinker. But never showed actual evidence...

Kennedy clearly has more of a clue given both his baseball experience and years associated with the Dodgers. I find it amusing that so many posters here are incapable of accepting opinions of professional baseball commentators who are merely being skeptical.

At what point do you realize this adds nothing to the thread?

It means that the Sox need to be skeptical of "Greeks bearing gifts" in this case the Dodgers offering Verdugo that what it adds to the thread.

That presents a conundrum.

If the Dodgers offer a good player, beware. If they don’t offer a good player, the deal isn’t enough...

Sorry, I forgot how serious a bunch of adults are about a kid's game that still compels us to bang away our days and nights on keyboards to strangers that only exist through code names...

I believe that verse makes precisely the opposite point of the 'Greeks bearing gifts' cliche. But that is not unusual with Bible-thumping admonitions.

If Bloom is going to trade Mookie, just do it and stop jerking off everybody. Nothing of significant value will be coming back in return. It’s a salary dump of an All Star player in his prime by a big market team —which in itself is preposterous and evidence that the organization is now run by buffoons. Just get on with it.

Betts and Price (and $9M a year x 3) for maybe 2 or 3 of these four: Gonsolin, Strippling, Gray and Cartaya might be the best we can expect.

Even this, is better than a comp pick and still having Price on the books.

100% agree.

Bloom is likely trying for the best deal and feels there is a chance to do better, otherwise Betts would be traded by now, or an announcement would be made that he is going nowhere and talks have ended.

I know we can get impatient as fans during a slow winter, but I'm glad Bloom is not rushing into anything.

I get the fact that (fans? GMs? owners?) don't like long-term contracts. Great. So here's an alternative: you can have the MVP at something below fair market value for a nice short-term contract (one year) w/ no commitments beyond that. Why on earth would you pass that up?? For the 'future'? 2020 IS the future. If I were as enamored of "prospects" as those here, I would simply stay home and follow the SeaDogs.

The short-sightedness is astounding.

Buffoonery is getting nothing for Betts, not resetting and watching us finish 2020 with 85 wins.
We will be getting nothing for Betts, just one years earlier. The draft pick that we will get a year from now will probably be just as valuable as the garbage that the Dodgers are looking to foist upon us.

2020 May be the future, but you’re team isn’t gonna have a good 2020 without a damn miracle

Maybe a miracle happens.Maybe saying it would take a miracle is wrong.

Maybe we have a better chance than I think.

But to me, it's a sure bet that if we go for it all in 2020, we'd be setting ourselves up for a deeper and wider cliff.

The only way we could avoid it is if Henry decides to spend wildly for the next 2-3 years, and that seems highly unlikely. We'd have spent some already had that been an option.

The only reason we've held off trading top assets is to keep some semblance of putting an competitive and exciting team on the field for 2020, so ticket sales do not crater and NESN doesn't tank.

That's absurd.

The only reason we are hearing "garbage" is because Price is part of the deal- yes, the guy you hoped would not opt out.

Betts straight up for just Gonsolin, Strippling, Gray or Cartaya is better than a comp pick, and we could get 3-4 without adding Price.

I never said that I hoped that Price would not opt out. I said that hoping for him to opt out was absurd. Those are 2 very different things.

Whether or not they include Price with Betts, they will still get garbage in return.

Edit: Stripling is 30 yrs old and completely unaccomplished, Cartaya is a 17 year old kid, and Gonsolin is garbage too. I'd prefer to keep Mookie for 1 more year and get a draft pick than to take one of those guys.

...or:

"2020 May be the future, but you’re team isn’t gonna have a good 2020 without a damn miracle"

These are the kinds of statements that reiterate this one: "It's amazing how assumptions and expectations are almost always made based on the previous season... and how many times even expert pundits are wrong."

Bring on the pessimism -- or overconfidence, if you're a Yankme fan. But the 2020 Red Sox haven't given up until they trade Mookie.

The Red Sox advanced to the postseason four times over the past decade*, capturing two World Series titles, and winning a combined one game in the other two postseason trips.

How many trips to the postseason can the Red Sox expect in the upcoming decade? Should that influence the pending decision on Mookie Betts?

* over those 10 seasons the Red Sox ranked 2, 2, 3, 3, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and 1 in Opening Day payroll

1. None of the players Sox will get will be as good as Betts.

2. Whoever the Sox draft as a compensation pick is extremely likely to not be as good as any of the Dodgers coming back.

3. Stripling was an All Star in 2018. Cut him some slack.

4. It’s possible the entire point of dealing Betts is to reset and allow the Sox to position themselves to offer him a record-setting contract. Trade or not, rumor has it the only way to keep him off the market is with a 12 year $420 mill contract.

Dumping Price while taking nothing back (like Myers) would be a massive accomplishment in itself...
