I'm not sure what Betts wants. .

i do i do!

he wants the biggest $$ contract possible. thats all it takes to sign Mookie Betts next offseason. the biggest contract. where he plays baseball for $27MM this season has zero bearing on that simple fact.

I'm pretty sure that's true, but sometimes a player will take a slightly lower deal to play where he wants, or the taxes are lower...

I was speaking about his wishes to play for the Sox or not.

I can't imagine us offering him more than anyone else (or the same) and him leaving, but who knows after all this crap.

Taxes play into it completely. A team in Florida or Texas has an advantage, but it still comes down to dollars. Maybe the total contract is $10 mil less over 10 years but the tax savings is $15 mil over that time and it’s in actuality, a better contract

Here is a plan I am nearly certain will not happen, but it is an extreme version of what I might think would help us get better by 2021 and/or beyond (at the expense of 2020).

The trade simulator accepted all of these trades.

Betts & Eovaldi to LAD for Pollock, Gonsolin, Stripling & Cartaya

Price & Walden to SDP for Myers & Margot

JBJ (+$1M) & Workman for Dominic Smith & Marisnik

JD (+$8M) to TOR for Rowdy Tellez

Barnes & Hembree to ATL for Kyle Wright

That leaves us with...

SP: Sale, ERod, Perez, Gonsolin, Stripling, Wright plus what we have left over

RP: DHern, Taylor, Brasier, Lakins, Velazquez, Weber, Brewer plus leftovers

C: Vaz & Plawecki, Cartaya

1B: D Smith/Myers/Tellez

2B: Peraza/ Chavis

3B: Devers, Dalbec/Chavis

SS: Bogey, Lin, Chatham

LF: Beni/Myers

CF: Pollock

RF: Margot

DH: Myers/Dalbec/Chavis

Our budget would be tens of millions below the lux tax, and we'd be poised to go after Betts and others next winter.

Or Washington State.

Or Wyoming.:)

Although state and local income taxes are prorated on where each game is played.

Buying a house in Texas means you pay an 8.5% sales tax. (It's what we have instead of income tax.) I guess one can work here but live elsewhere.

So that settles it. Betts will sign with the Wyoming Cowboys...

I spent five good years as a young professor at the University of Wyoming.:)

Boston Red Sox roster moves: Marco Hernandez clears waivers, outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket

I'm thrilled beyond words!

Bloom is at least trying. For DD, if you weren’t a star, he didn’t give a s***. DD has depth issues. Bloom will have performance issues, but at least should have some depth

But how many high-strikeout AAAA left-handed pitchers do the Sox need?

Well, when 3-4 will be on the DL, one more may be needed.

Tom Werner: “We’re looking forward to the media giving us low expectations and then we’ll be there in October.”

Um ok...

For a pen, it would be in Bloom I'd trust if I was a sox fan. The guy built a damn good and damn deep pen out of rubber bands, some used gum and partially dried Elmer's glue

Well, you're little smarter. than whinny ass fans here. We asked for anti-DD field general and complain when we get one. One with a pretty damn good track record getting considerable mileage out of bunch of no names.

I’m thrilled we hired Bloom. He’s probably the best guy to shorten the rebuild (cliff) and get us through a budget reset.
