They "learned" spending large wins rings before the declines set in.

Price was even worse tonight going on 2 2/3 and throwing the game away (no punn intended).

Price won us a ring. We knew we'd see a downslide at some point.

It reminds me of the Victorino signing. We all knew it was 2 seasons too long, but once we won the 2013 ring, nobody really cared.

I doubt Price or Sale become a Sandoval or Crawford, but I suppose they could.

Years of team control left:

2

Pedey

1-3

JD

3

Price

Eovaldi

5

Sale

6

Bogey

No. I don't think so. Price truly looks like he was pissed at having to come back after Paternity Leave, & just didn't give a s***.

As already said, "at least Sale looks pissed. At least Porcello looks pissed."

Price certainly looked like he gave a s*** last year. Especially in the post-season. Lately?

Especially post-Eck? He's like the little bi+ch who finds out nobody likes her after viciously going after a "nobody" in HS.... When her classmates collectively give her the, WTF bi+ch was that?"

She's pissed! & doesn't give a flip if she takes the whole thing down.

They’ve been disappointing recently but it’s still too early to give up on Chris Sale and David Price.

FWIW I just traded for Sale in my fantasy league.

With Sale, this is just one season.

Price feels like he’s been going backwards for a while now. In four seasons in Boston (including 2019), he has posted his three highest ERA’s since 2010. And his two lowest fWAR totals, with 2019 poised to be #3 on that list.

It’s just not working out...

It's hard to know with aging pitchers. John Lester was a keeper we let slip away. He is 35 now but still has an ERA under 4. Yes, its in the National League where they face one less solid hitter, but still he is viable. Price seems to be slipping but his velocity is still okay (not great), Sale shows flashes of greatness,

Leave it to the Sox to try to fight the last war. The totally blew Lester. Since then ......trying to make up for their losses....predictable.

Some would actually say they succeeded. Lester got a ring with the Cubs, we got a ring with Price et al.

Now we're f**ked, admittedly.

There was a time when Porcello was doing about as well as Lester, but this season put the kabash on that.

I'm tempted to get into other interests and check back in on the Sox in like 4 years ...

But you know you can't do that.

Have to keep watching in order to avoid joining the "lets stick our heads in the sand" crowd if for no other reason. In my case, even idiot Manfred can't stop me from watching.

Porcello was effective last night. It will be interesting to see if Price & Sale can even last 5 in their next outings.

Porcello abandoned his 4 seam FB up entirely last night. In fact, I don't think he threw one at all. That saved him his usual 2019 process of getting tattooed in the 1st couple innings, reassessing and reinventing a way to get guys out from there.

It certainly worked against the anemic Royals and might work against other weak hitting teams that can't hit anything but an outright mistake right down mains st. In fact, it might work against other teams that simply cannot hit off-speed, breaking stuff.

Remains to be seen how long Porcello can make this magic act work. But it was a smart move on his part.

As for Sale and Price, I no longer know what to say about them. Sale has been awful and is beginning to turn into a whiny punk besides. Price has been awful and is already a whiny, self-agrandizing punk.

Anyway its Cashner tonight and ERod on Wednesday according to the probably pitchers listed.

Thought for the day. The Red Sox have historically stunk at producing starting pitchers, and now it's really caught up to them. It's mind boggling how many starters have flamed out for the Sox since Jon Lester. Henry Owens, Anthony Ranaudo, today's crop of Johnson & Velazquez, I could probably list a dozen more, what is wrong with our farm system?

Velasquez really doesn’t count. He was signed as a 28yo free agent out of the Mexican League. If anything, he’s a success story.

Despite his unpopularity, Clay Buchholz was a successful starter drafted since Lester. And while the jury is still out, it’s a bit early to say 22yo Michael Kopech is a bust.

And the Sox have been really good at trading away pitchers who become good relievers for other teams, like Ty Buttrey and Shaun Anderson.

Clay was like Sale could never pitch a full season. It just seems to me that since I've been following the Sox (mid 80s), rotation mainstays have rarely come from the farm system. Roger Clemens, Aaron Sele, Jon Lester are the names that come to mind that could be counted on. Everyone else who were good starters for us were imported like Lowe, Wakefield, Pedro, Schilling, Saberhagen, or only lasted a short time like Felix Doubront.

Schilling did start in the Sox system tho.

Nay...we didn't want him. He's a strike thrower. Who knows, maybe offing Schill was our first step into spread sheet baseball. Some guy using DOS pumping in numbers said, "GET RID OF HIM. We don't want strike throwers".

Wow I forgot! Still, I don't know if the team we traded him to gave him what he needed in his minor league training to excel or not.

That would be the Orioles, who were putting out pitchers back than at the same rate Keebler puts out cookies.

We got Mike Boddicker in the deal...
