Throwing good money after bad is not sensible. I'd love Stroman but he can't turn this season around for the team.

I think that back is still bothering him some, not terribly but enough to screw with his swing just a bit, and that’s all it takes.

 

Even if his back was bothering him just a little, you don't put JD in the field. You make Beni crawl out there first or put Holt out there regardless of whether there is a LH or RH pitcher. I don't think its his back.

The man is already outspending everyone. If I am him, I am ridiculously pissed off. I wouldn’t pay more into the pot at this point. People Re getting paid to make this work and they are simply FAILING. Dave is in the hook for this.. and of course, some of the players are just not getting it done. It’s that simple.

 

I'm sure that John Henry's tax cuts have more than made up for whatever wasted money he's already spent on this team.

Yes they have a chance to be better than last year’s team on defense. Finally some depth at LB and the secondary should be very good.

I doubt JD would be attractive in a trade mainly because of his opt out clause.

 

He'd be attractive as a rental, and the option years are not overpays.

 

We'd get a nice return in trade, but what might be more important would be the ability to reset the tax in 2020 and still be able to extend Betts afterwards.

Price, Brewer and Grillman Weber combined for one of the absolute worst games of the year. WTF is wrong with these guys ??? One game following a shutout victory that might have ignited a run towards a WC position these pukes lose it big time. The hitters quit also raising no dust against a competent pitcher in Means. very sad, vary weak, just another POS from the 2019 Red Sox

Fully agree, especially since you can take the position that this season is going nowhere and save the WC #2 happy ******** . JDM is not just having an off season, he is not going to solve significant run production issues in upcoming seasons batting like this. The reset was in play all along this season, just no one including JH, DD nor AC anticipated it the way some fans did.

What else do you need to know except that Ryan Weber, nice guy that he is , is pitching for a team that supposedly is trying for a WC slot with about 65 games to go. If that by itself is not pathetic, then how about Price's show up tonight ? Yes, the Sox can take the next 2 and be 4 for 6 vs Jays (worst hitting club in MLB) and O's (worst overall club in MLB) except that after acquiring the #2 pitcher on the O's who loses, the #1 (Means) beats you with his low rent guys. Who is fooling who ?

Nice idea. Except for the details. Exactly who are you going to package, and for what? All those hitters who (while not hitting to 2018 levels) are still producing more runs than any other team in the league? Or are you going to gut the already depleted pitching staff and get a 'true ace'--say, a Chris Sale or a David Price or a Rick Porcello or maybe a closer like Thronberg or maybe an E. Gagne or Andrew Bailey?

You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din. I've had seasons when I watched every game, 2014 & 2015 come to mind immediately, but I've turned off some games this year. I cannot force myself to watch this much bad baseball.

 

If there's one good thing to come out of this game it's that it proves why JDM should never be in the OF. He misplayed a ball that Mookie would have caught for fun into what was essentially an inside the park HR. It took JDM two misplays to do it, but he got it done!

This is crazy. Yes, Means is great, but you got three innings against the worst mess you could muster in the O’s pen and did nothing with it. And Price got lit up. Wow. I watched the game until I fell asleep. The Sox looked dead out there. No bounce, no magic. Just dead.
