His AAV was $8M for 2019. We'll pay less than $4M plus deduct whatever cash we're getting from the Orioles.

Very Solid. Well done, DD.

PS. Has $10M option guranteed for 2020 with 340 innings pitched combined for 2018-2019. He pitched 153 innings last year and so far has pitched 96 1/3 for combined 249 1/3 innings.

He needs 91 more innings to qualify. Sox has 71 more games, every 5th day would mean 14 more starts. He would need to average close to 7 innings per start.

For what it's worth, this year Andrew Cashner has posted 1.8 fWAR in 17 starts:

https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=8782&position=P

Eduardo Rodriguez has posted 1.7 fWAR in 19 starts and Rick Porcello 1.3 fWAR in 18 starts:

https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2019&month=0&season1=2019&ind=0&team=3&rost=&age=&filter=&players=&startdate=&enddat

According to Cot's Baseball Contracts, Cashner has a complicated contract:

Andrew Cashner rhp

2 years/$16M (2018-19) plus 2020 option

2 years/$16M (2018-19), plus 2020 option

$3M signing bonus (paid $1.5M each Jan. 15 in 2020 and 2021)

18:$5M, 19:$8M, 20:$10M option

2020 option guaranteed with 340 innings in 2018-19 combined

2020 becomes player option with 360 innings in 2018-19 combined

annual performance bonuses based on starts and innings pitched:

$0.25M each for 10, 15 GS. $0.625M for 20 GS. $0.4M for 30 GS

$0.25M each for 110, 120 IP. $0.275M for 130 IP. $0.35M for 140 IP. $0.75M for 150 IP. $0.4M each for 170, 180, 190, 200 IP

It would be interesting to learn how the teams split up the obligations.

Cashner sold fill the bill.

On the surface it looks like a decent move. We didn't give top prospects and the money is reasonable. Even if he is a rental, it is probably the best move that we could have made.

Porcello goes, Sox might keep him. Probably much about next year as this year. Edited by OH FOY!

Yep those are nice. Hope he stays this way. Good pick-up for what we could afford. That's it.

It would take Johnson 8 or 9 starts to reach that many innings. haha

Solid pickup just for the fact that it hopefully means we won't see Josh Smith or Brian Johnson start anymore games this season.

That is assuming that everyone is healthy for the rest of the year, and that is unrealistic. I think we will see Johnson again. I hope we never have to see Velasquez start again.

I don't wan to see either, but I'd rather see Velazquez than Johnson.
