Somehow I have to think the board would have liked to see us win this on a hit or even a sac fly.

Maybe just get the win for starters. Style points can come later

The lefties hit Texas piitching well tonight. Benintendi hit like he had a fire lit under him. Still a struggle to win but win they did.

Vazquez definitely redeemed himself. That was a huge hit, exactly what the Sox have needed too often and not gotten. Almost as big was JBJ's single. To me the walks to Chavis and Mookie were simply the result of a pitcher who lost his command. Both were hitless tonight, and Chavis is in a really bad slump.

Definite tip of the cap to Thunder. And to moonslav for telling us to stay positive.

Actually Max . That was one I didn;tt watch. Still not a Barnes fan

Oh, OK. I give him a break because this year DD definitely low-balled the bullpen. Their five best--Workman, Walden, Barnes, Brasier, and Hembree--get paid a total of $5.5M. That's less than half what the Cubs are paying Kimbrel this year.

Cora take notice. I am not forgetting that you brought in Nunez to hit for Holt and he did exactly what everyone expected--a weak ground out.

On the other hand, I thought Cora's handling of the bullpen was letter perfect. Workman to get the last out in the 7th, then pitch the 8th, then Barnes pitch the 9th.

Agreed! Offense wasn’t great but did what they needed to do as well!

Just watched the last 4 innings.

I thought we had found a new way to lose (thanks to Vaz's throw), but we finally got a key....errr... walk!

Big win!

The Rays & Guardians lost, as of course did the Rangers.

One more big game vs Texas, then we play 3 at BAL and 3 at MN. After a much needed day off, we come back home for 3 v TOR and 3 v CWS . Then 2 days off as we go to London fo 2 v NYY.

Bruins looked worse than the Redsox tonight yikes total gift to have a chance at cup on home ice and Rask decides I'll take this one off along with the rest

Binnington played out of his mind. He basically won that game single handedly and deserved it.

Likely with Stanton and Judge back in the lineup

Generally speaking, Goalies in Stanley Cup Finals have to play out of their mind for their team to win. But the Bruins just got outplayed all over the ice last night. Binnington absolutely did keep the Bruins at bay for the usual first 10 minute home team burst. After that the Blues simply outplayed us everywhere 5 on 5 and that was that.

Goalies are like pitchers; when they are on, there is not a lot the opponent can do.

As I wrote on the hockey thread last night, I knew the B’s were in trouble when Marchand had a wide open net, nailed an 80 mph shot, Binnington whiffed with his arm and the puck ended up in the loose fold of his jersey. That goes in like it does 99 times out of 100 and it’s a different game.

Excellent point. We are actually getting something a little better than the cost. A victory for the FO plan to dance with the ones what won the WS, less the closer and the guy who can't pitch in LA. BTW, it was Joe Kelly bobblehead night for teh Dodgers.

Certainly wasn't a pretty game yesterday, but I'll take it

It was drop dead gorgeous, and you should be proud. Yes, certainly, it took awhile for the lineup to get that 4th run. But I thought Porcello had a great start and that the bullpen--Workman and Barnes--were fine. The one glitch was that terrible, rotten, stinking throw by Vazquez that led to the unearned run that tied the game.

But Vazquez also got that key 9th inning leadoff double, followed by JBJ's single, and Texas was clearly on the ropes. If you're a Rangers fan, you should be furious, not at those two hits, but at the walk given to Chavis, these days the world's easiest out who loves to swing and miss.

I'm not proud of it and maybe that is on me..... This offense is still dead in the water. Porcello was fantastic outside of the 1st inning, but we still needed extremely solid pitching to win that game. The offense still scores in chunks and usually against crap teams.... But when it comes to us playing the big boys they go cold. If the pitching can stay solid with Sale, Price and Porcello and even E-Rod AND (that is a big and/if) the offense shows up this team can be deadly and really right this ship.

Mookie is still playing with his head up his ass. The bases were loaded with no one out and Chavis had just walked on 4 pitches and Mookie swings at the first strike. I was in disbelief, and I was thankful that it wasn’t Nunez who would have put that first pitch in play for a home to first DP.

I thought Marco got a very bad read on the Bradley Basehit keeping him from scoring. Good hold by the 3B coach. He would have been a dead duck.

Tough when he hasn't played much in 3 years. He still needs time to adjust.

Which is weird since he rarely swings at a first pitch and loves to watch balls middle/middle go right by. Really odd.
