I agree .I need a drink .

Look, I'd rather have EE than Moreland/Pearce, but maybe something else is in the works, and we'd have had to trade or DFA Pearce after getting EE.

Just for shits and grins, who would DD put up for trade that has any value?

Maybe Houck & Ockimey?

Groome?

Mata?

Feltman & Ockimey?

I have a feeling this summer is going to see a massive amount of sellers and a glut of helpful players going for dirt cheap as the supply way outweighs the demand.

Baseball-Reference uses infinity for that, as Trevor Rosenthal's 2019 game log will attest.

In Rosenthal's first 4 outings this year he faced 9 batters and allowed 7 earned runs without recording an out.

So his ERA after 4 appearances was still infinity!

(After his 5th appearance his ERA was 72.00.)

Compared to infinity that ain't bad.

I'm not sure EE could play 1B everyday, so it would have force JD to the OF and JBJ to the bench.

No and no.

Seattle would lose a year of team control in the swap of Domingo Santana and Jackie Bradley Jr. (who is not under team control through the target 2021 season).

The Mariners would have little interest in the spare parts of a lowly ranked farm system:

What was that again?

disgusting trade by a Seattle team that won't sniff a World Series for a decade if lucky .

One of the very worst franchises in pro sports. They have done absolutely nothing since the 1970s. NOTHING.

Juan Then is a prospect who the Yankees got for Nick Rumbelow, who is now released. He was in the DSL when we got him as a 17 yr old. He showed great command and a velocity bump when he got here. He’s a LONG ways off after not even seeing the better short season leagues. But he’s topping out in the mid 90s as a 19 yr old. He’ll likely sit there one day. Secondary stuff has promise. He can locate almost everything. He’s not a bad return, just surprised he’s all that went back.

Perhaps Seattle general manager Jerry Dipoto preferred 19-year-old righthander Juan Then to 20-year-old righthanded Red Sox prospect Brayan Bello:

Or not.

That's the closest comp I could find.:)

Are you sure?

The Mariners likes topping their sundaes with dog s***. The Sox could just force them to eat it while signing the deal with Ball going to the Mariners.

Just for haha's, I looked, EE hits about 1 HR in every 10 at bats in Fenway, for his career. Yanks get a buyout, and only about a half season of salary. Pretty smart to me, they still have the money and Prospects if they make a Trade for a Starter. Good move by the Yanks, but Sox did not need him. JD is perfect. Anyway we had no cash for it to happen. Need a Reliever.

And a good south wind sprung up behind;

The Albatross did follow,

And every day, for food or play,

Came to the mariner's hollo!

In mist or cloud, on mast or shroud,

It perched for vespers nine;

Whiles all the night, through fog-smoke white,

Glimmered the white Moon-shine.'

'God save thee, ancient Mariner!

From the fiends, that plague thee thus!—

Why look'st thou so?'—With my cross-bow

I shot the ALBATROSS.

The Sun now rose upon the right:

Out of the sea came he,

Still hid in mist, and on the left

Went down into the sea.

And the good south wind still blew behind,

But no sweet bird did follow,

Nor any day for food or play

Came to the mariner's hollo!

And I had done a hellish thing,

And it would work 'em woe:

For all averred, I had killed the bird

That made the breeze to blow.

Ah wretch! said they, the bird to slay,

That made the breeze to blow!

Ah! well a-day! what evil looks

Had I from old and young!

Instead of the cross, the Albatross

About my neck was hung.

One of my personal favorites. I've even used the metaphor of "albatross" for a Sox contract in the past IIRC.

In the broader picture ...

Some people cheer for the rich to maintain their wealth.

Others cheer for the poor to improve their station in life.

Guess who falls into the latter camp?

Then there’s the Mariners, who insist on being poor despite every opportunity to be rich...

Dysfunctional sad sack franchises need fans too, absolutely. ;)

The Seattle Mariners probably still have the fifth-best cumulative record in the American League since late September 2016 when general manager Jerry Dipoto took over the troubled franchise with the worst farm system.

Coming off an 89-win season last year, the Mariners took the radical move of "re-imaging" the club with the understanding that the 2019 season would be a "step back." The anticipated reality has set in after the surprising 13-2 start.

The strategy is more interesting than engineering another close-but-no-postseason finish. The plan may well fail but I'll withhold judgment until after the 2021 season.

It will end with a single season “success” of winning more often than losing and deciding other teams are better positioned. So the Mariners will sell off their assets for minimal to no return and the cycle will then begin anew...

With three winning seasons in the last five, Seattle abstained from a full-fledged sell-off of assets until last offseason.

This year the Mariners appear intent on breaking their tie with the Red Sox for the most last-place finishes this decade.:)

When you tank , you tank . The Mariners are tanking . Just like the garbage team we are beating up this weekend. These teams are an embarrassment to baseball . And the commissioner seems helpless to do anything about it. A shame .

Nearly every franchise has its embarrassments.

That phrase ^^ is the "alternate truth" when one doesn't want to admit to TANKING.

And he had a 1.68 ERA a year ago when he was pitching at the same age and level as Then is this year. Fangraphs gives both of them a Future Value if 40.

They’re comparable...
