RIP John Havlicek. Before my time but one of the great Celtics.

I've been a Bucks fan since I lived in Milwaukee when Lew Alcindor won us a championship. The Celtics were our nemesis, as they were for many teams, but I always respected Havlicek. He was a smart player who always played his heart out.

Sorry to hear that. Johnny Most did the "Havlicek stole the ball" call. I bumped into him one night at the Hilltop Steak house on Rte 1 north of Boston. He had is family and was seated next to us. He was so revered at that time but people wouldn't let him eat in peace. On the court, he had a high energy style and was an important part of the geat Celtics teams.

Just got home from Endgame. Happy to see our Sox with the W!

Was another solid win! Think we are on the right track!

I was on a nearby faculty and ended up rooting for the NY Knicks in 1970 and 1973 when they won the NBA with Willis Reed, Dave Debusschere, Earl Monroe, and Walt Frazier--and Phil Jackson as the 6th man. Bradley was their small forward, and Havlicek drove him nuts because he never stopped moving. A write-up says Havlicek invested well and lived comfortably in retirement. He died of Parkinson's in Jupiter, FL, where residents are quite well off.

That 1960 Ohio State team that won the NC went on to play in the NCAAT final game both of the next two years and with basically the same players (Jerry Lucas, Larry Siegfried, Bobby Knight, etc. But both years they lost the final game and NC to the Cincinnati Bearcats. Maybe it was those last two years that gave Havlicek an unquenchable thirst to win championships, and the Celtics and Auerbach were a perfect match for him.

It feels like we have to sweep the rays again to get back in this. They will be looking for payback.

A sweep would be huge of course. Even transformational. But this team needs to focus on one game at a time.

Last Saturday the Sox scored 5 off the Rays' starter tonight, Charlie Morton, a righty, so that part looks good. But the Sox starter tonight is a mystery, which doesn't look good, especially given the recent difficulties with the bullpen.

Tonight is game 8 of 20 games in 20 days for the Sox which will put that much more pressure on the bullpen.

Ain't nothing easy about this season.

Thanks for that info, Max. Good stuff.

Was that loss to Cincy the year Oscar Robertson, another Buck great, led them to the top?

Ya can’t see us sweeping Tampa twice. They’re too good. But a series win would bring us to 8-2 in our last 10 which is definitely a nice streak and pointing in the right direction. The rotation has been pretty rock solid too. Porcello outside of the 3rd inning was good again last night. As long as the offense can keep putting up 4 plus runs a game I think we will turn the corner.

Nope. The Big O led them to the final four twice, but never won. The two wins happened after the 1960 Olympics in Rome, after which Robertson went to the NBA.

Excellent perspective. Agree the lineup and rotation are better, but the bullpen is a concern.

Thank God for Google. I thought you were referring to the Beckett play!

LOL I know that play. It makes Waiting for Godot look uplifting. :)

If we're going to be one of those teams that wins 3-4 in a row, and then loses 3-4 in a row, there's going to be a problem. A problem with my emotions, that is

I feel better knowing that other people's emotions rise and fall with the fortunes of their teams. I have trying to work on that.

Well, I don't quite mean it like that. If we're in a funk, I'll just not watch the game. Save myself the trouble. But, when we're rolling, I watch every inning of every game, and look forward to it all day. I used to be very animated and outspoken, but I've dialed it back. It's really helped my golf game, as a matter of fact

I really take advantage of the fact that I can do a full shoulder and spinal turn. I can't imagine what life's gonna be like in 25 years

Your life will probably be great in 25 years. I'm 63 and I still feel pretty good physically, and my golf swing isn't much different. Luck is everything when it comes to health of course.

What are the prospects of playing Friday night's game?

I'd say slim to none. Still better than being in Milwaukee this weekend. 5-8 inches of snow

I think it will be great as well. It seems hard to think about now, but ideally, I will be married with a couple of kids. I'm 20 and have never had a girlfriend, so that's a scary thought since there's times I never think it's going to happen, but gotta stay positive. Hopefully, we'll be settled in a suburb somewhere outside either Houston, Nashville, New York, or Boston. Maybe I'll even stay in Connecticut. I want to leave CT, but I'm going to have a really hard time doing so.

Rain tonight doesn't help much if the Sox have another day-night double header tomorrow. If the missed game is later, then we skip the "mystery" starter planned for tonight and go with Price tomorrow, then Sale, etc.

We have 16 more games with Tampa. There are plenty of opportunities to make up the game at a future date. There's no reason to play a Day - Night DH tomorrow.

In which case a rain dance today is in order. Spahn and Sain and all that stuff.

There's been something of a Beckett revival here (in LA) in the last few years. What is somewhat alarming is that the audiences are almost all my age (70+) or older. Beckett really spoke to us when we were 20, but apparently doesn't seem to do much for younger people today (or perhaps they just don't go to the theatre). Oh well, you can't step into the same pus twice.

Friday's starter if the game is played:

[h=2]Red Sox Select Josh Smith[/h]By Jeff Todd | April 26, 2019 at 2:25pm CDT

The Red Sox have selected the contract of righty Josh Smith, per a club announcement. He’ll make a start today for the club if the scheduled contest isn’t rained out. Reliever Travis Lakins was optioned down to open active roster space.

Smith, 31, saw 127 1/3 innings of big-league action from 2015-17 but failed to make it back up last year. He owns a 5.30 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 4.4 BB/9 at the game’s highest level.

Though he has never posted dominating numbers in the upper minors, Smith has struck out better than a batter per nine at the Triple-A level since the start of the 2017 season. He has racked up 23 strikeouts against five walks in 16 2/3 innings in three starts for Pawtucket to open the present season.
