I would certainly be concerned if I just signed a pitcher who is now 30yrs and had a shoulder issue last season to a massive extension and he comes out throwing 89 mph.

He may just be experiencing a dead arm...... or maybe not.

I wouldn't say he dominated. A lot of very hittable pitches that hitters missed. If he pitches like this all the time he will get hammered

There have been a lot of lower speed pitchers who succeeded with stuff that looked like it should have been pounded every day. Maybe Sale's deception. location and offspeed stuff can keep hitters off their toes? IDK.

It's your buddy bellhop that starts the drama.

I just noticed your signature. If that's meant to mock me and my typical pregame post, I'd kindly appreciate you removing it. Not sure what I ever did to you.

Not directed at you at all. You have never done anything to me and I like your contributions to the forum. It was meant just to poke fun at what has become a sort of sawx mantra.

I think the whole dancing thing was ridiculous, but that's just my opinion.

But since it bothers you I will kindly remove it.

That's not necessary. I don't mind it at all. I have thick skin so I can take it, and since it's not meant towards me, that doesn't even matter. I have a great deal of respect for (most) Yankees fans, growing up around so many in divided territory. Most of my closest friends are Yankees fans. In the midst of the so called "crackdown" on attacking signatures, I was just inquiring to be sure it wasn't meant toward me. We're good. Leave it up if you want.

I think Sale is still good enough to be effective with diminished velocity. However , without the velocity and the strikeouts, it is doubtful that he can be the dominant superstar that he has been . Let's hope the velocity returns as the weather warms up .

I haven't checked, but has he rquired warmer weather in the past to reach his typical velo?

Oakland is probably not the best team to assess Sale's prowess. I'm quite certain they led the league in strikeouts last year and besides have several youthful hitters. And it's early in the season for the offense too.

I'm the wrong one to answer that . I am sure we have somebody on here who can give an in depth analysis of Sale's velocity on every different temperature day , as well as considering the relative humidity.

I want to see Chris Sale pitch one more time. If he doesn’t regain his form, he is definitely injured. We haven’t seen Chris Sale pitch as we used to.

... and if he is injured, can someone explain me how did he pass the medical test? Maybe this is the reason he signed for much more less of his suggested value.

which still doesn't make much sense.

Sale has not been his dominant self since the end of last season and to some extent through the playoffs. It seems it is probably a physical issue. It really isn't surprising. I think there is still hope for improvement but it may first require shutting him down.

He hit 97-98 several times, so I think he is on the right track.

I'm not sure a shutdown is the best idea.

It's not just about velocity. Shutting him down can give him a chance to figure things out. Sox are going nowhere this season. You can't win 'em all.

So true. I watched the Yankee broadcast, and Michael Kaye said he hit 100 on one single pitch, which was poked to the outfield... I think a foul ball. Yes, this was the one big improvement tonight. He also started off in great fashion in terms of pitch count... until the 2 run inning.

Still, Sale did not like his performance, and let us all know by his temper tantrum in the dugout followed by an exit into the tunnel (this after the 4th inning) I even wondered if he was coming back, but he did and lowered his ERA from 9.0 to 8.5 thanks to Judge's early start form third on a tag up.

Sale should be upset. He gave up 4 runs in 5 innings to a lineup that had Austin Romine, Gio Urshela and Michael Tauchman in it. He didn’t get beat by an offensive juggernaut here. Our 8 position players on the DL could lead an offense to the playoffs. If Sale faced our real lineup, he’d have been out in the 3rd

s*** maybe if he were fully recovered from his injuries, he'd make your lineup bitches has he always have.

Dear mr. dombroski,

I would appreciate the opportunity to replace chris sale as a starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox.

I am 100 percent positive that I can throw picture perfect beach balls to opposing hitters just as effectively as chris sale does, but I will do it at one tenth the amount you pay sale! And at the moment my shoulder is 100 percent healthy, unlike chris sale’s shoulder.

Thank you in advance for considering my generous offer!

Maybe he would. The problem is, he seems to have command at lower velocities and cannot command the upper eschelon velo. Maybe it comes, maybe it doesn’t. Sale would need to pump the 97 mph heat at the corners to be ace like again. Right now, Chris “Freaking” Sale freaking sucks.

Wow! Giving up in mid April.

All the way, baby!!!!
