They do...team option years (sometimes 2-3 years)

Not exactly what I had in mind. That's extra years if the team wants them. By that time, they've dished out maybe five or seven guaranteed years already. I want shorter portions of contracts fully guaranteed. Teams should have a right to protect their investment.

No. Just no. Please no.

Certainly, Dombrowski cares how I feel about Machado. He has been trying to get on my good side this past year, and has done a rather good job of it. A Machado signing would set him several years back.

I can't see Machado being a good fit in the clubhouse or with the fans after the slide. We're all just supposed to forget that?

Has any GM ever signed his team's worst enemy before? I can't think of any immediately off the top of my head.

Players deserve some protection too, though. They have short careers. The only guys that get the ridiculously long contracts are the megastars, and that's because owners and fans alike want the big talent on their team and will outbid the other ones that want the same big talent on their team.

If DD wants to impress me, he'll sign Harper. I would have to be careful not to break my neck rushing to buy his jersey.

I don't want Harper either.

Why should they be different than almost any other industry? Shouldn't they be paid in line with performance, just like everyone else?

They actually get paid less than other entertainers like Rock stars and Oprah.

'Everyone else' doesn't get paid in line with performance.

Anyway you can't compare employment in major league baseball to other jobs. It's a unique system. Teams have players under their complete control for the first 6 years. A young player might be MVP and get paid minimum wage, and they don't get paid an extra $50 million for that, do they? If the player is still around after those 6 years they get their crack at their big payday in free agency and they get the upper hand. It all pretty much balances out at the end of the day. The teams aren't suffering financially, that's for sure.

It’s the Way of the Patriots. Also I believe that type of behavior spawned the phrase ”if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”

Also while the fans might think of Machado as Public Enemy #1 times Satan times Dick Cheney, it is entirely possible the players and coaches don’t...

Who, besides people working for tips or commissions, gets paid based on performance? Most people have a salary or hourly wage and that’s what they get paid, regardless of successes and failures...

Adam Sandler has a net worth of $420million. Most of it made by writing and starring in some truly awful movies that combined contain a very limited number of jokes. Is he paid “based on performance?”

Yes, because the public keep lapping up his movies for some very strange reason. But that's not quite the same thing.

But don't go away from my basic point: Adam Sandler isn't given a contract guaranteeing salary for his next ten movies, regardless of how they turn out.

Actually Netflix did give Adam Sandler a contract for his next 8 movies (actually he’s made at least 3 already including an atrocity called “The Ridiculous Six”).

I never got the appeal of his humor. He must have a great agent.

And you've ignored my point about the fact that players who outperform their salaries don't get anything extra for it.

A system where players get paid based on their performance just wouldn't work. If you think it through you can see some of the reasons why.

I never liked him either, but people flock to his movies just to see him.

It might take 3-4 really bad movies for him to not be offered a lot for his next movie.

1. He’s made way more than 3 or 4 bad movies.

2. He has an EIGHT MOVIE CONTRACT in place with Netflix. No matter how bad they are, he is going to make at least 5 more for them

3. The original deal with Netflix was 4 movies for $250 MILLION!!! Netflix extended it for another 4 movies and who knows how much more money.

He’s the Carl Crawford of Hollywood... was

2. See #1.

3. Dumb people must like him.

This.

I don't know how any of you can watch his 3rd golf shot in Happy Gilmore and not laugh.

The batting cage scene was pretty good as well.

Of course I am dumb. So there is that.

Dodgers traded Kemp and Puig to the Reds . Guess they are pretty confident about getting Harper.

Although this still puts them over the luxury tax threshold if they do, according to deadspin.

I found the Longest Yard remake to be pretty funny... But yeah, other than that, he is awful.

I have no problem with Adam Sandler. It's not like I'm a huge fan and go out of my way to see his movies, but the ones I've seen have been enjoyable.

So, you're in good company. Dumb people unite! {Fist bump}

I think they re-set, so they could gom over this year- same as the Yanks.

But they'd still be taxed 20%, right? If I'm understanding it correctly.

Yes, but it's much better than before, and they may not go over by too much next season.
