I'm not giving up, but we have to think the all-aboard Yanks are better than the half-Yanks we've seen in the first third of the season. However, if we can take 3-4 this weekend in NY, that would tell the baseball world that we are still around.

Baseball is a weird sport. You never know what might happen when and if the Yanks finally get healthy.

Funny how things can change quickly...with Pedey now definitely out...

This is Xander's team. Forget the opt out, he's singed through 2026 counting option year which is vested based on essentially him being healthy in 2025.

Michael Chavis is a Sox until 2025. Devers is under team control through 2024. I wouldn't waste time extending Betts. I'd see what I can get for him after this season.

We can always sign him as a free agent. You can BUY a very good player for his projected $25-$28M salary next year.

Our starting pitching should be solid for next four years. Our bullpen should always be competitive what with all the young farm arms being converted to the pen.

That's the core group going forward.

The only way the Sox trade Betts is at the 2020 deadline if they're out of it. As they did with Lester.

Agreed, and it is very rare for a team to trade a player and then re-sign him that next winter.

It's business. You do what's best for the team. Most true fans get it. To get NOTHING for Betts is asinine. Before you know it, you'll need big money for Devers. We already hedged by signing Xander. You didn't think we'd do it. Extending both Sale and Xander tells me what the management is thinking.

Unlike the Lester situation, it appears we made a fair offer to Betts' camp.

To give up a full season of Betts is also asinine, Nick. You can trade him at the deadline if you're out of it.

Moon, is it time to consider Marco Hernandez (he's tearing it up right now) on our major league roster?

We don't have a true 2B right now. I'm assuming he can play both 2B and SS.

I rather free up Holt to play all over the field. Nunez scares me defensively.

When do we say good by to Pearce? Chavis can get his bats at 2B, 1B and DH.

Cora rearranged his rotation for the Yankee series. I wish Boone would do that same. With Price throwing less than an inning, he’s good for tomorrow. Instead of Sale Wednesday, Cora goes with Weber and he gets to align Sale, ERod, Porcello, and Price vs NY

Boone doesn't have Gray anymore to hide. I remember he'd make sure Gray wouldn't face the Sox and have him against Baltimore year which backfire as he got lit and the Yankees swept in a 4 game series in Boston.

Pearce is starting to hit. You might miss him later if he's gone.

Although not unheard of. The Yankees recently did exactly that with Aroldis Chapman...

It is NEVER time to release even reasonably productive Major Leaguers to clear a path for Marco Hernandez.

Marco will have to wait for an injury to another player before he gets another chance to get promoted to MLB and showcase his ability for season-ending injuries...

At some point, both Pearce and Nunez will need to contribute. Maybe not today, not next week. We can't have bunch of non productive offensive players that is lacking defensively also.

If it was up to the majority, Devers and Chavis would still be honing their skills in the minors.

I'm thinking Betts stays with the Sox, some how- some way.

I'm staying out of the Marco bandwagon crusade.

If it happens, I can say "I told you so," but I'll believe it when I see it.

I haven’t seen a single person advocate for sending Chavis or Devers back down.

And while Pearce and Nunez are struggling, let’s not pretend Marco Hernandez has some sort of background showing himself to be a proven upgrade. He’ll get a chance, but probably without compromising any depth...

And if Marco gets called up and starts out 1 for 15, the enthusiasm for his presence on the team will quickly dim.

He may be a September call-up. Since Nunez and/or Holt may be gone next year, he may have a chance next ST'ing, but again, I'm not counting on squat.

He might get the call before that. He is currently on the 40 man roster...

Maybe depends when Lin gets off the IL.

I was thinking defense. Any offense would be bonus.

He's a true infielder. Better than Nunez, Holt and Chavis.

Pearce and Nunez become redundant with Chavis playing 1B, 2B and DH. Holt can play everywhere. Pearce and Nunez have to hit.

Eovaldi to throw a simulated game...

BOSTON -- Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, who is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow, is expected to throw a simulated game against live batters either Thursday or Friday, but "probably Friday" due to the team's travel schedule. 5 years/$145M (2020-24), plus 2025 option

signed extension with Boston 3/23/19

20:$30M, 21:$30M, 22:$30M, 23:$27.5M, 24:$27.5M, 25:$20M club option

$50M is deferred, reducing average annual value to $25.6M (will defer $10M annually in 2020-24, to be paid on 6/30 in 15th year after the salary is earned, 2035-39. If club exercises 2025 option, $5M is deferred until 6/30/2040

Not sure Sale's contract, having some money deferred has been discussed. His CB payroll impact is $25.6M, instead of $29M. Some savings there for luxury tax.
