This may have been discussed before, but my advabed macro degeneration has kept me from scrolling as much as I once fif.

Re/Holf. Sems strange his hot bat has not been utilized (?)

Look at how poorly some of our pen guys did in September (and even August, too for some). I'm glad Cora doesn't just go by recent results to make his decisions.

I trust Cora. Devers has been good in playoffs. Kinsler defense is a big plus and every move Cora has been making works. So I’m done questioning him lol.

Shoulda never started... LOL!

I trust Cora also. Best Manager we EVER had! That's why it seems strange, And I wasn't thniking about 3B! Devers should be there every game. I was thinking about 2B where he has looked pretty good--considering his bat.

Holt's role when everything's working has always been as a reserve player. One you can plug in and expect to be productive if someone goes down. if the rest of the team is firing on all cylinders, Mr. Holt rides the pine ready to be called upon. We should be glad that that seems to be happening. Holt gives us a luxury very few teams have ever had in terms of a plug-and-play man for all seasons with the stick to be above replacement level at nearly all of the positions he plays

Holt might start tonight with a righty on the mound for LA.

Speaking of being good guy as was brought up in another string for Betts, and deservedly so, Brock Holt also has been doing good things in the community as well.

Congratulations to Brock Holt on hitting for the cycle during the ALDS! Your fans at the Jimmy Fund are proud of you for making history!

Each year, Boston Red Sox players serve as the Jimmy Fund Captain.

Jimmy Fund Captains attend fundraising events, visit patients and build support for cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Boston Red Sox infielder Brock Holt returns as the Captain for the 2018 season.

Holt will encourage fans to step up to the plate and help strike out cancer by getting involved with such signature Jimmy Fund events as Rally for the Jimmy Fund presented by Chowdaheadz, John Hancock Fenway Fantasy Day, Jimmy Fund Little League, Boston Red Sox/Jimmy Fund license plates, and WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon presented by Arbella Insurance

Yeah I'm expecting him to get the nod tonight.

Another great post as far as I am concerned. This team separates itself for me with respect to the others in that they carry no observable baggage. I love stories like this. It is great to have super talent but talent alone doesn't always get it done. Quality people of good character can often hold their own if not better against superior talent. It is a great team in all respects.

Sox are 9-2 in the postseason. If Holt was starting, would they be doing any better?

unanswerable - classic comeback I guess is would they be doing any worse?

Holt actually hits lefties slightly better than righties (career), but I would like to see Holt start a game at some point.

Oddly it is more likely, simply because there is a lot more “worse” than “better”...

still just a guess

still just a guess

The entire point was how well this team is doing, yet with (at the time) a 2-0 lead in the World Series, we still have to question the manager?

Is there no pleasing some people?

The team just got worn down as the season went on and only Porcello could reliably give innings. The postseason - with the starters all effectively pitching in, things have gotten better. Kelly in particular has been a revelation. (he's probably the best candidate for WS MVP with Eovaldi) If he can command his secondary stuff like that, he really can be dominant.

All true, but I still think this should be a lesson to those who only look at the previous week, 14 days or month's stats to suggest who should play and not play.

Managers and GMs all know better, thankfully.

right - you don't want a Dwayne Hosey thing happening.

What this has been a testament to - more than anything - has been the guys' willingness to take the ball and step outside of their comfort zones to try to win a banner. I have immense respect for Price and Eovaldi, who have been asked to carry loads well outside of the usual rotation starter's SOP. Heck, Eduardo Rodriguez coming from postseasoon LOOGY duty to put together one hell of a tough start in dire circumstances deserves a hat tip. Everybody wants to do what it takes to win - not everybody can adapt to different roles and preparation as easily.

Exactly. While this isn't the first time starters have been used outside their normal roles in the playoffs, this team has seen just about every player step up when needed. We've seen huge hits and plays from the unlikeliest of players.

Imagine, if I'd have said we'd be one game away from a ring with Betts doing so little the whole post season!

I'm going to say this because I truly believe this - JD Martinez provided a sense of protection in the middle of our lineup that helped our hitters better mentally approach every at bat. It is possible that the same thing happened with the bullpen during this series. The concept of having to perform at the highest level might have been eased for a pitcher like Joe Kelly knowing that he had Porcello,Price, Eovaldi, Sale, and even Rodriguez out there to pick him up if necessary. The thought had to be comforting - a pressure reliever.
