Loved the fact that the Red Sox beat up on J.Happ. I got so tired of hearing how good Happ is against the Red Sox. I guess we won't hear that anymore.

Somehow I doubt it. There are several posters that are slaves to the "what have you done most recently" philosophy.

Everyone was so high on Brasier, afterall, he's been great for the last 2 weeks, 2 months or whatever.

Everyone was down on Beni, afterall, he's sucked for 2 weeks, 2 months or whatever.

Everyone was down on Leon, because, well, he just sucks cause he can't hit.

Everyone was down on Sale due to his low velocity 10 days ago.

I could go on and on.

It's not what you've done in the most recent cherry-picked sample size- it's what you are capable of doing.

Our team is solid on paper. Now, just show us on the filed.

Last night was a great start!

1967 didn't hurt a bit. Anyone who lived through it knows that season was pure joy even though they lost the World Series. In fact, 1975 wasn't painful. Rice and Lynn coming up as Rookies in the same season invigorated the fan base and the Big Red Machine was a prohibitive favorite. Also, we were without Rice for the World Series. The 1975 world Series was one of the most exciting World Series in history. Losing was disappointing, but not devastating because we had all these great young players plus Yaz. 1978 and 2003 were very painful because it was the Yankees, and 1986 was devastating because it was given away. The notion of long suffering Red Sox fans is preposterous, but it helps jackasses like Shaughnessy could sell books. Since 1967, being a Red Sox fan has been a lot of fun. No need for armor.

I got some armor after 2016. Watching Big Papi walk off for the last time after getting swept was rough for me, since he was the last player on the team that had been around since before I could recall being a fan.

I wasn’t born for the 67 or 75 World Series. Nor could I name many players from those teams outside of a couple pitchers but I still like watching highlights of those games on YouTube. Sometimes old fashion baseball is fun to watch!

No kidding. I guess we are getting too old for this stuff.

I'm not going to tell you the things I do during a game. LOL

I didn't even have to witness most of these heartbreaking moments like a lot of people on this board have, but I still felt incredibly nervous and intense watching last nights game. I was only 9 when Aaron Boone happened and still remember being devastated (and my dad being pissed). Watching playoff game, especially against the Yankees, is a real love/hate relationship.

This is so so true. An absolute pleasure to be able to cheer for a young exciting Red Sox team that had obvious rising stars. In '75 we played the series without Rice. In '67, we played the series without Tony C. Having them in their day could have made all of the difference.

looked horrible last night! Scared. Pathetic.

Everyone was down on Beni, afterall, he's sucked for 2 weeks, 2 months or whatever.

Beni is the man! Will come up big in the post season!!

Everyone was down on Leon, because, well, he just sucks cause he can't hit...

after JDM, Sandy was the MVP of this game! WITHOUT him, so many wild pitches cost the Sox at least 2 - 3 runs, & the Red Sox lose.

Everyone was down on Sale due to his low velocity 10 days ago

A huge game! Looked great! I was screaming at the tv that it was insanity to take him out so early, & that it looked like it was going to cost the Sox a CRUCIAL Game 1. As it turns out, this move may well prove to be BRILLIANT, saving Price for a long post season I PRAY!

I could go on and on.

Hoping and Praying Price will finally show what he is capable of against the Yankees in the post season. A lot more of our guys ... Mookie, X-Bo, Holt, Pearce, ....

Last night was a great start! scary moments, but I think the guys have to be thinking, "this is our time! We can do this!"

67 we were without Tony C too. He was having an unreal season too.

I like the fact that you still like watching highlights from this incredible time in baseball. We suffered for so long that "wait till next year" seemed to be an expression we got used to by Memorial Day. Captain Carl - Dick Williams - and the rest of those great young athletes helped to change the history that we had had to deal with for so long.

Go back to 1967 and watch Yaz's catch in April when Billy Rohr came so close to throwing a no hitter. He had times during that season that he literally did carry that team right on his back. That catch seemed to set the tone for the season in my mind at the time.

For some reason, I'm pretty calm watching baseball. Nervous/scared out of my mind, but calm. I'm much more animated watching football. People that are in the room with me say I act like a coach.

We always forget Jim Lonborg in 67. George Scott in 67 at 23 years old, hit .303, with 19 HRS, with 82 RBI's, and Won the Gold Glove. Hit 7 Triples too. Reggie Smith was 22 years old and had decent season, in CF. Rico at 24 was a darn good SS. Mike Andrews 23 years old, man we were young, as a team. Tony C 22. Joe Foy 24, not a bad season at 3rd, along with Dalton Jones. Pitching killed us back then, and a team called the Baltimore Orioles. Who were unreal in Pitching and talented. Edited by OH FOY!

I wasn't a baseball fan in '67, but 1975 hurt like hell.

1975 was a great season. Game 7 was kind of a painful way to end it. We had a 3-0 lead in that game. Spaceman threw an ill-advised eephus to Tony Perez that made it 3-2. Rose knocked in the tying run and Morgan knocked in the winner.

All season ending losses hurt. That doesn't mean that it wasn't a fun/great season or that the season is a failure. Season ending losses hurt. Season ending losses to the Yankees are devastating.

I was 16. maybe i was spoiled by my Packers and Bucks successes in the late 60's and early 70's.

You implied that loss did not hurt, but that other did...like what 2003?

Were you a wuss on that one?

Johnson screwed up royally by hitting for Jim Willoughby with 2 out in the bottom of the 8th. Willoughby had been untouchable to that point. My 17 year old self said it at the time and my 60 year old self still does.

Wasn't Willoughby one of the Buffalo Heads?

Johnson certainly had his favorites and his black sheep.

The Buffalo Heads formed when Zimmer was manager I believe.
