Yankees have had Price's number for years. I don't see him pitching that well tomorrow, but I really hope I'm wrong.

They do yes but more so in Yankee stadium. Not as bad in Fenway

The game got closer than we all wished, but it was nice to see Porcello and Kimbrel get those last 6 outs.

Sandy was unreal blocking all the wildness.

Great to see Sale look strong.

Too many walks (5) but the 13 Ks were big.

I still think Cora wanted to hold onto Wright for a major innings need he sees coming in NY or maybe even a start there. It worked out...but just barely. Should not have taken Sale out when he did as there is simply no way this team moves on with its starters going 6 or less...just no way. Cora at least has to give the Starter a chance to get out of his own jam because we have absolutely nobody that can come in with ducks on the pond.

Having virtually lucked out with Work in the 6th, I have no clue why Cora went back to Work for a start of a clean inning. Relief pitchers are not starters and thinking they will "work it out" over a half inning sit is just asinine. Just pick somebody and send him out there once the relief pitcher shows you he just can't get it done on that given night.

Also, now you see why Managers have to go back to the same arms over and over again in the post season. Who of that bunch of trash do you think Cora has any confidence in at all out of the guys that came in relief last night? Barnes is about all that comes out of that mess and barely at that. Porcello has to start a game.

The natural spot for Wright was to start the 7th and if doing fine, pitch the 8th and just take it to Kimbrel to start a clean 9th instead of the mess we got. But since Wright never got up, I have to believe Cora really sees a major innings shortfall in NY and wants him for that. If Price gets pounced on and bounced early tonight I would bet Cora will go to either Evo or Eddie and still resist the temptation to use Wright in Fenway against the MFY's. That said if we are ahead multiple runs in game two up 1-0 in games I would be tempted to use Wright in game 2 here. Sealing wins in both games and going up 2-0 would be huge for this team going to NY for game three and it would be worth the risk if we have a real lead to protect.

I am so done with the give up a run to get an out bullpen. Obviously Cora was as well. He just apparently was adamant about keeping Wright for Yankee Stadium.

I may have lost count. Did Stanton strike out 4 times?

Yep, four times. He was brutal. New York sports radio is going to tear him apart today.

(1) Chris Sale looked like an ace again. I suspect he will be even stronger next time out (game 5, if it goes that far).

(2) Notwithstanding the Judge HR, I though Kimbrel looked great, very sharp breaks on his pitches and his command was good enough.

(3) To win the W.S., Sale and Kimbrel must lead the Red Sox pitching staff and so game 1 was a positive sign.

(4) Sure, the bullpen was shaky, but maybe the days off had something to do with it? They can pitch better than this. I'm pretty confident, for example, that R.Brasier will be better in his next outing.

(5) The Porcello strategy is a good one. When the SPs have their 1 inning throw days, they can hold off, and perhaps throw an inning in the game instead. I suspect Eavoldi will be ready to pitch one inning today.

(6) Loved the fact that the Red Sox beat up on J.Happ. I got so tired of hearing how good Happ is against the Red Sox. I guess we won't hear that anymore.

(7) I worry about Devers defense, but I would start him over Nunez against Tanaka. That one AB in game one, don't remember the inning, but I think Nunez led off the inning. A 3-2 pitch, the next pitch wasn't even close, up and in, and of course Nunez swung at it and struck out.

(8) Sale was squeezed all night, the Red Sox bullpen was squeezed all night, the umpire had a small strike zone. The Yankees pitchers had the same disadvantage. The Red Sox offense could have been a little more patient. The Yankees offense was patient throughout the game, but they also didn't get the big hit.

(9) Bad luck with Bradley Jr. and Leon, both missed HRs by inches. Then again, maybe some of the Yankees hitters just missed too. I seem to remember Didi hitting some rockets.

Not sure if you heard, but Wright had an issue with his knee, discomfort before the game. According to reports, he will likely be placed on the DL and and replaced on the playoff roster.

Good stuff.

Great game by Leon too, not only blocking Pitches but called a great game.

Sandy Leon was the unsung hero of the game, followed closely by Porcello. In addition to the 5 blocked pitches with runners on base, Leon was able to coax the pitchers through their messes. This is why you have him behind the plate, despite the woeful offense.

Kudos to Porcello as well, who likely gave up his Game 3 start to save the bullpen from its woes last night.

That game was far too nerve wracking! Thank goodness the Sox held on. I probably would not have been able to sleep if they blew it.

Win Game 2 tonight!

211 in the regular season.

He is doing his thing, I guess.

Four times indeed.

JD >> Stanton!

1. Agreed. Sale is back! Agree on 2 and 3 as well.

4. I'm hoping that it was just a combination of nerves and the long layoff for the bullpen and they got it out of their systems. They should be better next time out.

5. Porcello had already thrown about 25 pitches in a bullpen earlier in the day. He might not be available for his start in Game 4, which speaks volumes for the kind of player Porcello is.

True confessions: I can't even watch these games any more. My nerves simply can't take it. I follow on Gameday and DVR the game so I can watch later if good stuff happens.

No kidding. I guess we are getting too old for this stuff.

I'm not going to tell you the things I do during a game. LOL

I followed the very end of the game last night on Alex Speier's Twitter feed.

To me, this game felt different. It never felt like we were going to blow it. There have been games this year where the pen has blown it and you knew it was inevitable. Not last night. I never doubted that game last night.

Still can’t throw strikes and fall behind too much on the count.

Giving credit where credit's due, Leon put on a defensive clinic behind home plate last night. He was one of the main reasons the SOX won last night.

The bullpen didn't come in and "save" that game. Sandy did. Imagine how bad that s*** show would have looked without Sandy or at least some literally crazy job by whomever was behind the plate.

I agree. Ron Darling was saying so in the broadcast, and then the NESN crew said the same thing on the postgame show.

What? Man, 1967, 1975, 1978, 1986, 2003, you don't have the armor anymore? Love it, even if it hurts.

1967 didn't hurt a bit. Anyone who lived through it knows that season was pure joy even though they lost the World Series. In fact, 1975 wasn't painful. Rice and Lynn coming up as Rookies in the same season invigorated the fan base and the Big Red Machine was a prohibitive favorite. Also, we were without Rice for the World Series. The 1975 world Series was one of the most exciting World Series in history. Losing was disappointing, but not devastating because we had all these great young players plus Yaz. 1978 and 2003 were very painful because it was the Yankees, and 1986 was devastating because it was given away. The notion of long suffering Red Sox fans is preposterous, but it helps jackasses like Shaughnessy could sell books. Since 1967, being a Red Sox fan has been a lot of fun. No need for armor.

It would be nice if he could get lucky with bat once in a while.
