I agree to a point, but he'd been throwing well all game until he got hit in the 6th. I wouldn't be too hard on Cora for pressing his luck a bit with a comfortable lead. If you never stretch a guy beyond where he's comfortable, he doesn't grow, amirite?

 

I'm still comfortable enough with a 7 inning performance out of basically a backup starter, even if a last minute homer did make his ER count a little high.

It's already been said, but I'd like to state for the official record that if anyone other than Thunder tries to start the first postseason GT, I am going to change their username, avatar, and signature to a bunch of My Little Pony and Spongebob garbage. For an entire year.

Cora needs to think situationally and be ready , I'm glad Johnson did get the win and that he bullpen didn't cough it up. I noticed ace Kimbrel warming up in the 9th, just in case. Why wear him out ?

Not sure why you're questioning Kimbrel warming up when Kelly was making things interesting.

Love that word travesty, which speaks volumes about your mindset. I mean, common sense would argue that it's pretty hard to live up to that word during a record-breaking season, a six game winning streak, and a game that was basically won with those 4 runs in the 3d which became a 7-0 lead in the 6th.

 

But not, of course, to the cognoscenti--the seers and overseers who really know the game and deign to enlighten the rest of us. So thanks for doing so. Do we need to start a "dump Cora" thread perhaps?

I have no problem with Johnson starting the 7th with a 6 run lead. I think Cora should have taken him out after the walk, but I understand why he left him in.

 

At any rate, Johnson pitched a good game. His final line doesn't do that outing justice.
