Yeah, you guys knew I'd start this one.

Personally I thought he looked pretty good for a guy who hasn't taken the position in awhile. His footwork is a little rusty, but he got the job done and made the plays he had to make. I was pretty happy to see Cora's staff being willing to use all the tools at their disposal.

No chance this becomes a full or even part time job. It was used in an emergency situation only. I expect Lin will be recalled?

The Sox have called up scorching hot second baseman Tony Renda from Pawtucket.

I am cool with this since Lin is a lightweight bat and is inconsistent defensively.

I very much doubt that Kinsler will be out very long.

We can make do for now with AAAA pleebs.

Moving Mookie to 2nd is very f***ing stupid. Cora says as much , too.

Dumb f***ing idea.

It's one of the worst things that happened this year. I'm just glad he didn't get hurt.

Kinsler pulling a hammy?????

No. Having to resort to playing Betts at 2B.

Thought it was obvious based on the thread title.

I was shocked, I thought they’d move Pearce to 2B (I thought he had a little experience there, I cld be wrong tho). Maybe they couldn’t?

Either way, it was a fun novelty to have Betts play 2B and a little crazy, but it shouldn’t continue i agree.

You're going down in flames on this one, Dojji.

And it's not about whether Mookie can play second adequately or not. The guy can do just about everything on a baseball field well.

Mookie at 2b gets you Pearce and Moreland in the lineup. I wouldn’t be surprised if Cora does this the next two games then never puts him there again.

Pearce at 2B accomplishes the same thing.

And of the two, Pearce has more MLB innings at 2B and (I find this part surprising and probably inaccurate with larger sample sizes), the better UZR/150 numbers at 2B...

He can probably pitch an inning or two as well, but I really don't want to see that one at all...

Pardon my ignorance but what’s the big deal? I’m glad Mookie could help fill in Brock Holt style.

It's just the concern that Mookie stands a much bigger chance of getting injured at second, especially since he hasn't played there for a while.

My guess is that moving Mookie to 2B may have been a "clubhouse move" to some degree. The team is playing well and having fun, and as Cora said in the postgame interview, Mookie has been "begging me" to let him play in the infield.

I'm pleased that Mookie didn't get hurt at 2B although playing him there at 2B against the Yankees in particular may have been risky. Not as risky as playing him at 2B against the O's or the D's now, but a bit risky.

All's well that ends well and this ended well. Mookie got a chance to do what he's been begging to do and the Sox won. Everyone is happy. Well, except the Yankees. :(

I would be very surprised if Mookie plays 2b again this season. It's the kind of move that would have to be made in the offseason, giving Betts an entire spring training to adjust.

I'm assuming Bogaerts returns on Saturday, moving Holt to 2b. Alternatively, maybe Renda gets the start at 2b and Holt gets the day off. I'm assuming Pearce gets another start at 1b? My lineup prediction for Saturday:

Betts RF

Benintendi LF

Pearce 1b

Martinez DH

Bogaerts SS

Bradley CF

Nunez 3b

Holt 2b

Leon C

It sounds like Renda is another utility player type. Along with 2b, his best position, he can play 3b, LF, and RF. He even has some experience at 1b.

I certainly hope that this does not become a regular thing. It's not that I don't think that Mookie can handle it, it's that I think it's extremely risky in terms of injury.

My understanding is that Lin is injured as well.

Should I be embarrassed that when I heard the Sox were bringing up Tony Renda, I said who?

He seems to have pretty decent numbers.

I completely agree about Mookie at 2B.

It was an emergency situation last night. It should not happen again.

Messing with a GG RF'er in the best groove of his life is not something I want to see again.

None! Cora said that Mookie had been bothering him to play 3B too.

I believe "begging" is the word Cora used. :D

Agreed. On this current SOX team the chances of getting injured are high enough without pushing the odds.
