Officially postponed now. Why even start this game? The weather forecast was awful in Baltimore all night, and its not fair to the fans and players to do this, and none of the stats count now. Awesome.

That's some ********.

Someday I'll be telling my grandkids that J.D. Martinez actually hit 54 home runs that one year when the Sox won it all, not 53...

They should just start these games earlier just to get them in.

Who makes the call if play cannot resumes? The home team or the blue crew?

It actually stop raining right now. Somebody posted they wait for 10:30 to decide. That turn out not real.

Umps make call based on the forecast.

Home team makes the call until the first pitch. Once the game starts it is up to the umpire crew.

That's what Sutcliffe said on ESPN. Obviously they took a look at the radar and the field and decided it would not be possible to resume.

And once the line-up cards are exchanged, the game is in the hands of the umpires.

Probably MLB. Got to negate the Betts and Marty HR's to help Trout's MVP cause. Just hit a HR.

I'd rather they get wiped out than risk somebody getting hurt on that wet turf. And there was virtually no way Price was going to come back out, which would have meant 8 innings of pen with Johnson going tomorrow (which should mean 3-4 more innings for the pen.

The forecast is cloudy... possible a draining problem. If they waited as long as they did, what's 30 minutes more. Oh well, at least the team gets to go home and get rested for tomorrow night.

Little known fact:

The last ball Yaz hit over then fence did not count when the game was rained out before it became official.

And I thought that Iknew everything aboutYsz. How do you research stats for games that don’t count?

Pure chance. I was looking something up about Yaz on YouTube awhile back and came across this video:

Great stuff. There was another Home Run that Yaz hit that didn’t count. It was at the original Yankee Stadium. He hit a ball to RCF that Ron Woods kept for and fell into the stands. He knocked himself cold and Yaz rounded the bases. Bobby Murcer saw that Woods was unconscious and that the ball was a few feet away. As he waved for the trainer, Murcer put the ball in Wood’s glove. When the umps came out to see what was going on and they saw the ball in Woods glove, the ump called out Yaz. It was story that Murcer used to tell. I had watched that game on TV.

Edit: I can’t find an account of Murcer telling. The story, but here is a NYTimes account of what had happened.

Prior to the game, it’s the home team. Once the game starts, it’s the umpires

It really does seem like a royal pooch-screwing considering the forecast.

I still don't get why when it get's rained out it is restarted from scratch rather than resumed. It's such BS and makes no sense.

Help me a little here. I know I've seen games resumed from the point of suspension, so what's the criteria for resuming a game vs. starting it over?

...just for my general knowledge.

I'm just gonna take a stab here without looking it up. I think the only games that get resumed are ones that have gone 5 innings and are tied-or the visiting team has gone ahead in their half of the inning when the game is stopped.

That's a rational way of looking at it. It still ticks me off though. LOL

If anything, they never should have started the game.

I completely agree.

At least let the part of the game that has been played count.

That makes sense. Thanks.
