Tonight's game would have been a good first outing for him.

It would have been. Maybe they just want to bring him up a bit, see the feel of MLB again for a bit, but yea, this was low intensity for most of the game.

There's no doubt the SOX need another BP arm and MAYBE Thornburg is the answer, but the Yankems BP, except for Benances and Chapman are no great shakes either.

I applaud his courage for working so hard to get back.

But if we are being honest, if he is going to have any success, he will need to bring his game up a ton from what he showed in his rehab outings.

Makes one want to throw another F you to C.Smith for his self-inflicted injury.

Nothing wrong with having passion and emotion in this game. I just wish he was more mature about he expressed it!

Good point. Betances & wife beater belong in the no great shakes club with the rest of those bums....

A strong Thornburg will go a long way in making me feel better about the bullpen. As important as starting pitching is, the Sox bullpen will determine how far the Sox go. In the playoffs closing games out is the difference between winning championships or just participating in. The last two years the Sox just participated in.

I really think that regardless of what Thornburg does, Dombrowski needs to add another reliever, even though I happen to think our pen is pretty good as is.

Dombrowski has one of the worst track records in making any bullpen related deals. One could argue his only success (Kimbrel) was due to overpaying. His ineptitude probably cost the Tigers a World Series title during their window of opportunity (and helped the Sox).

Let's hope his luck changes.

Yup, that has always been his Achilles' heel. Which might explain why he overpaid for Kimbrel.

When I think of overpaid, I dwell on players like Crawford, Price, Pablo, and Hanley. A pitcher who's given the SOX the success Kimbrel has, I do not consider overpaid.

Kimmi means he overpaid in the prospects he gave up for Kimbrel.

A LH'er with decent control, if not hyperspeed, would help

Thornburg is on the roster. Will he join the team Friday in KC?

He gave up garbage for Kimbrel — guy’s that had no future with the Red Sox and that are still doing nothing for their new team 3 years after they were traded. Maybe Logan Allen in AA will pan out, but the rest have established that they are not going to be anything significant at the MLB level. Edited by a700hitter

Margot is having an injury plagued season, but last year he was pretty good. I think that kid ends up a solid big league regular.

He was meh last year. I wouldn't have wanted him in our starting OF.

Logan allen has looked pretty darn good to me and is now in the top 100 minor leaguers.

Espinosa is coming back from surgery and has explosive, electric stuff, but struggled with command.

I am using how edpinosa comes back as a template for groome’s return in 2020.

The prospects, but also the salary on top of that. Double whammy.

It's not a matter of whether we needed the prospects on our team or not, nor is it a matter of how well the prospects are doing after the fact. It's about getting proper value in return.

those guys could have been used to get Pom....we could still have Espy.

those guys could have been used to get Sale...we could still have Moncada.
