What a thriller of a game last night was. Don't see many of that.

Tonight it's a rematch of last Sunday finale.

E-rod vs Leake

A 1-0 pitcher’s duel?

With Jeremy Lin back on the roster (goodbye Robby, thanks for the set up work), expect Nunez to get some time of his feet. Also expect Bogaerts to miss more than one game. Expect Pedey to miss most of 2018, he's obviously not keeping the inflammation out of his knee and that can usually be cured day to day with steroidal medicines. So Holt will remain in the lineup as a virtual regular for awhile.

For those desiring a disposition of Swihart, I think you still have a month to wait. DD will not trash this possible throw-in asset by DFA'ing him until the trade deadline. Dave will try to get some notional value in a multi-player deal, focused on second base play. JBJr will be kept through the season , unless he is part of a bigger deal, not a one for one trade. I'd see him go next winter. Leon and Vazquez are your catchers , and that's how they roll.

Anyone notice Xander was quoted as saying he hurt his wrist during the slide, and what has been reported by Dr. Strange of the Sox medical staff is a sprained finger?

Hoping for the best here.

I know. It's terrifying whenever a Red Sox player, especially a key player, has one of these types of injuries.

As usual with our medical staff when I read what they've said I simply say to myself, "That's what they said. I wonder if that's the real story."

It feels like there's a double-barreled threat of malpractice and misinformation.

As frustrated as I get with the information and misinformation coming out of our medical staff I also realize with HIPPA being what it is now they're in a tough situation.

On the one hand they have fans clamoring for information about injuries and OTOH they have the player's legal rights to not have personal medical information disclosed. And on the THIRD hand the FO has a vested interest in not having too much information about injuries made public because of the competitive advantage it would give other teams.

Sometimes I think the smartest thing they could do is to take the Bill Belichick approach and deadpan that every injured player is listed as "day to day' whether they have a hangnail or a broken bone. It wouldn't satisfy my curiosity but at least it would stop the raising of false hopes.

These are the standings going into tonight's game according to MLB.

NYY 50-23 .685

BSN 51-26 .667 1 game back

If I'm right about this - and I may not be because this sometimes confuses me - this could be the results after tonight's games. If the Yankees lose and the Sox win...

NYY 50-24 .676

BSN 52-26 .667 Do we go from 1 game back to 2 games back after a win??

I realize that the "games back" doesn't mean much of anything unless the teams have played the same number of games but still....

The Rays could sweep the Yanks because tomorrow it's Snell against German. Snell is one of their 2-3 real starters, and is their very best.

Hurrah for the Rays, on their own behalf, and on our own.

I would like to be one game out or tied for the al east going into the Yankees series next weekend.

Nice to see the Rays playing the Yanks tough this weekend for a change, huh? 1 run for the Yanks in 2 games.

I'll take a nice normal win tonight. No messing around with guys like Cruz with runners on and a starter falling apart thank you.

Indeed. Hopefully we do our part now and win.

Regular posters at a Seattle Mariners forum are having their annual bash at the Seattle-area home of the most prolific forum contributor (the moonslav59 of that message board:)).

I wish I could be there to watch the game but I decided to remain in Oregon because both of my adult children are home for a rare eight-day overlap. My cable-free home, however, can access the over-the-air telecast on Fox.

I better go have a beer. With 8 straight days of 8 - 4 landscape hand remodel, I'm not feeling so well.

Based on Cora's managing last night and then this line-up, is Cora being blackmailed by the Mariners?
