With the Yankees making another move i expect Dave to make another move.

Dave might make another move, but it won't be in reaction to the Yankees move. At least I hope not.

It’s not but i am sure you still see that. I am sure the skankees saw us get a starting pitcher and said we are getting one as well.

The Yanks needed a starter regardless.

I think both GMs have been working on numerous trade scenarios for weeks and weeks based on their individual team needs. I think the Yankees were getting a starting pitcher no matter what the Sox did.

I don't think this type of thing is as quick as many fans think. It takes a lot of time and effort for two teams to make a trade. That one trade is a reaction to a deal made by another team is probably more often just a matter of happenstance and/or media say-so...

Sure they have and so have the other contending teams. We don't have a lot to trade material nor cap space so DD is handicapped. Everyone knows the needs although the priorities might be argueable. DD will try his best but at worst we will stand pat and still be a terrific team. Only a few days to go so we won't have long to wait.

We still could use a reliable RP since Kelly hasn't been that of late. I also would take a 2nd baseman, particularly if he had more than a rental status. Pedroia is not likely to get better as a 37 year old, even if he makes it back next year.

This is where I’m at too.

Wonder whether the Nationals are willing to sell Harper. They are not going anywhere although they are 4.5 GB the WC.

If they were, Yankees would easily outbid us for him, they have better prospects and Judge is hurt. there is a 0% chance Sox trade for Bryce Harper.

We don't need Harper.

His name shouldn't even come up in connection with the Red Sox.

I don't know, there seem to be a lot of fans out there with fetishes for trading JBJ and/or moving Mookie back to second base. I'm sure someone can come up with a way to shoehorn Harper into our lineup...

What would we trade for him?

If the Nationals unload one of the best and most popular players in the game, they aren’t going to do it for Michael Chavis...

We should try and trade for this Brian Johnson guy. Would be an excellent 5th starter.....

Nah, we've got this awesome Drew Pomeranz guy. Who needs Johnson?

Hopefully, Cora is reconsidering taking Johnson out for PomPom. Right now Pomeranz is worth next to nothing on the trade market, would be wasting precious oxygen in our bullpen and wasting bullpen innings if he starts. DFA material.

Just what we need, a .220 hitter with a God complex who thinks how his hair "flows" while he is running is more important than hustling.

We don't need Harper.

He's hitting .216 with a respectable but not overwhelming .839 OPS. Our right fielders:

Mookie - .347 / 1.092

JD - .323 / 1.026

Beni - .298 / .895

We really don't need Harper, unless we move Mookie to 2nd base or something like that.

I actually think the decision to keep Pom in the rotation, for now, is Dombrowski's decision. I also think it's the right decision. We need to give Pom another look or two.

Seriously? You haven't seen enough? Pomeranz has sucked all year long and has lost velocity on his already underwhelming fastball. Johnson is at 3.45/129-as our #5 SP. I believe that roster spots should be assigned by merit alone. As I wrote elsewhere, Johnson has earned a spot in the rotation. Pomeranz has earned a demotion.

Here is a good read on the subject:

Agree, Pomeranz serves more meatballs then an Italian chef. He should be in Pawtucket working this crap out. It counts now.

Great article! Still not convinced Pomeranz can help this team even from the bullpen.

On reputation and past performance , Pomeranz is better than Johnson. He hasn't shown it lately. He will probably be given one or two more chances to shape up. If he continues to struggle , Johnson will get the starts until ERod returns.

Obviously the hope is that Pom can return to 2016-2017 form. No player is destined to stay as bad or as good as their most recent sample size.

Since Pom has a lot of pen experience in his career, and Johnson has been doing very well as a starter, I'd make Pom earn a slot in the rotation by showing something positive from the pen.

Well next start against Philly not a bad team, he keeps serving up HRS, that's a bad trend, and a very bad trend for a Reliever. Well see I guess. Including Pawtucket starts, 9 HRS, in 23 innings. Edited by OH FOY!
