Devers still sucks...both offensively and defensively. I see no potential so far. No strike zone recognition and no improvement defensively either.

The nattering nabobs of negativism will always have a field day on game threads which are kind of like a free fire zone. Almost anything goes.

 

I will myself get po'd with certain plays, pitches, at bats, whatever, but in the general scheme of this season, I'm a pretty happy camper. I like this team including its failings which sometimes are numerous. I see five pretty good hitters in Betts, Beni, Bogie, JDM, and Moreland and the real possibility that Devers will join them. I see five good starters in Price, Sale, Porcello, ERod, and Wright. I see a good bullpen. I see a good outfield defense and OK infield and catching--with special mention to Vazquez for catching Wright.

 

Last night was kind of vintage ERod, who has very good stuff, but not very good command. When he has both, he is pretty much on a par with Sale and Price and better than Porcello in my view.

Kimbrel does not get a save. He came in with a 4 run lead. All he gets tonight is a game finished.

 

Big factor tonight IMO was the 25 or so pitches he threw last night. With 30+ tonight, he will not be available tomorrow.

Heard an interesting stat about Kimbrel the other day; I think it was from the White Sox broadcasters:

 

Kimbrel has more career saves than hits allowed (confirmed via Baseball Reference, 312 saves, 270 hits allowed over his 9 year career)

That Kimbrel doesn't do all that well in non-save situations I believe applies to many closers.
