I think he definitely has the tools to be able to hit LHP. I just don't know how patient the Sox can be after this year.

I think you have to be pretty patient with a guy who now has an .899 OPS in spite of the issues with lefties.

Only 22% of his AB's are against LHP. He currently has a 968 OPS against RHP. That would look great paired with a platoon guy that could hit lefties.

He's also just straight up mashing at Home 1143 OPS vs 645 away, which indicates SSS alert.

Team OPS vs. lefties his .685, and Beni's is .655. Not much of a difference. I'd play against lefties to get him better at that. Nunez could replace him against lefties except Nunez is actually worse.

I wouldn't add a platoon from an in-house option tho.

I agree. Let him play. Right handers face right handed pitchers all the time. By getting at bats he will get better at hittig them. Great swing and a growing confidence.

Not for nothing, but Brock Holt has a 1303 OPS against LHP. He plays decently in LF too.

Honestly, Beni not hitting LHP isn't in my top 10 of issues with the Sox.

I think, IF Beni ends up hitting ANYWHERE NEAR the projections for 2018, .290 .390 .470 ops of .860+, with 90+ runs scored, & 90+ rbi's, & likely 100 / 100 for the aforementioned, NOBODY will ever talk about "platooning" this kid.

It will never happen!

Just my take anyway .... :)

Certainly, there is a history of good hitters not being platooned despite massive differentials.

Here's one...

Yaz career

.891 vs RHPs

.692 vs LHPs

Beni could haqve used tonights double for the cycle last night. The kid is really getting it done.

Yep! And I will take my chances with a guy like Beni, over a platoon against a LHP, ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

Yes was a NO-brainer, but Beni WILL BE an eventual .... lower case "no-brainer" also.....

Look dude. Sorry I pissed you off. I realize that my minor point about Hanley & Pablo was unsubstantiated and pointless. Otherwise, I honestly like both guys!!

My point was not worth talking about, as there are plenty of guys.... like Beni on the base-paths... who look a bit loopy.

Anyway, I apogize for putting that out, and I meant no harm. Guys get pretty brutal about MANY a Red Sox player, but I know I'm on record as supporting almost ALL, and being pretty tempered with my knocks on guys. This particular knock had nothing to do with overall looks. It was all about the eyes. Still, it was stupid. Sorry if i.genuinely upset anybody about 'looks!' That was not my intention, but I clearly said something stupid.

Mea culpa maximo!!!!

Seriously! Very sorry! I know I can sometimes go off, but my intentions are never to personally bring someone down!

I know benintendi is swinging a nice bat lately, but I like seeing bogey in the two hole.

Maybe when Betts gets back, hopefully very soon, we can experiment with benintendi in the five hole (protecting JD) and Keep bogey in the 2 hole.

You can't go wrong with either there. I like a good contact hitter who knows the strike zone and has speed on the bases. Both fit the bill.

Did you also debate the use of chicken and beer by the 2011 starting pitchers?

lol. I personally never got involved in that one. I was too pissed off about how that September went.

I was relieved when that month finally ended. It was the worst month of Red Sox baseball in my life. Every day I from the time I woke in the morning that there was no chance of the team winning. I could tell that the team was spiraling when September started and I predicted that we would blow it. My son called me nuts, but I just saw the losing envelope the team. Awful. I would have felt a little better if I had watched each game with a bucket of chicken and a six pack of beer.

Beni continues to have strong performances at the plate and is a perfect choice in the #1 or #2 hole. His BA is at 299 and his ops is now over 900. Keep it up although the Astros will throw some outstanding pitches up against our lineup and all the guys may stumble a little for the next 3 games.

When Betts returns I'd like to see Beni stay in the leadoff spot.

That's one of the problems this team has. It doesn't have a legitimate leadoff hitter, someone with speed and a high OBP but not much power. Both Betts & Swi have too much power to be a good leadoff hitter.

Oh, what to do, what to do?

Why can't a leadoff hitter have power?

Your bottom 3 are a little hot now, but not hot enough, Betts could still miss a whole at bat in a game batting him 3rd or 4th. In a close game 1 run could be difference. Remember the bottom 3 are not .300 hitters. If that was the case then I understand batting him later. Edited by OH FOY!

That's the whole point. The belief is, and it makes very good sense, it's best to have a high OBP guy with speed at the leadoff. Save your power to go behind that. I think the best lineup is beni, Bogie, Mookie, JDM, Mooreland, Pedey, Devers, JBJ, Vaz.

Save Mookie's big bat & get him more rbi ops. Too many of his HR's could drive in more runs. Our bottom 2 right in front of Mookie have been pathetic.

Nice to see JBJ & Sandi heat up. :)

I want my best hitter to have the most chances to be at bat. Why bury Mookie into the 3 hole if you can get an extra at bat hitting first? Can't win the game from the on deck circle.

1 run games are the difference in a successful season. Post Season, huge. If Mookie is in the On Deck Circle, at end of game it would be a shame, if you need to tie or win it.

Just saw it MVP- agree 100%

After the 1st inning up to Bottom of Order to do their job. If you bat Mookie say 3rd, and bottom of order is compounding outs, throughout the game, it adds up to later in the game. Could be the difference of 1 at bat, to say 3rd, 4th, 5th, hitter.

Throw out the Blowouts, its the 1 Run game that's big throughout Season.
