From what I read today the plan is for E-Rod to do one more Rehab start, don't know where, and go from there, and see how he feels. His fastball hit 94, but his cutter was outstanding, according to Cora.

EROD and Wright come to the rescue....

It should help, but our starters have been doing pretty well, and the ones who are doing the least well are fixtures in the rotation.

I firmly believe E-Rod will be the next Sox Pitcher to throw a No-hitter. I also believe he has the most movement in the last 10 feet into the hitting zone, then any Pitcher on the Sox, including Sale. If he could ever get efficient, especially in the Play-offs, he could dominate. This one Ben gets a Thumbs Up!

Playoffs SP is pretty simple---Sale (if he doesn't have his shoulder fall off), Price and Porcello...but EROD and Wright supply that extra middle relief or even a long relief if a SP gets hammered early, or throws too many pitches. Then you don't have to rely so much on that back-end part of the setup pen. Velasquez is good. Barnes is okay. Kelly? Thornburg? Brasier? Kimbrel I have faith will be fine in his role.

We may need a 4th starter with a 2 games- day off- 2 games format.

moon, I think both become assets as...relievers...especially Wright.

Thing is, Johnson seems to do way better as a 4 inning starter.

I don't want to mess with ERod as RP'er. I start him game 4.

Wright and Velazquez would be nice long inning guys out of the pen.

Johnson might get shorted, even though he's been doing pretty well for the first 4-5 innings as a starter.

I love ERod, but I'd bet on Sale.

Sox are aiming at Aug. 30, 31st, for return, against White Sox, on E-Rod. Maybe he'll be face Kopech as Opposing Pitcher? I think he might, if Kopech is going every 5 days, he is scheduled for the 31st. Edited by OH FOY!

Johnson is sort of this year's Dana Kiecker or Al Nipper. Or in other words, I'm going EROD, Wright before him. I like BJ, but he can get hurt very quickly in a playoff game start. But BJ is a better relief option than Pom and you have to have a lefty in some situations, so he might be better suited in that role. EROD will get his innings.

danny, please do not invoke the memory of Al Nipper.

Johnson has done his job. If Sale comes back and ERod return, you push BJ to the pen or mothball him for an off-season deal assuming Sale has nothing intervenable in the shoulder. Johnson is your best trade chip and should return you a big league impact reliever

From a pen standpoint, Barnes numbers impress me the most out of those stats.

Agree. Brasier's sample size is still a bit too small to get all worked up over, but he's getting there.

Barnes is basically 3rd in OBP against (larger sample size players) and first in SLG against (ahead of Sale!).

He's slipped up a little over the last month, but all RP'ers do.

This is not just a 2018 thing, either, he's been very good for 2 years.

2017-2018 (151 RP'ers qualifying)

MLB RP'er WAR

3. Kimbrel 4.4

17. Barnes 2.5

His 1.19 WHIP places him 56th.
