I love Sale. But his durability is more of a question than ever. Now it's not just a question of him wearing down late in the season, but of the structural health of his arm.

Agreed. Sale only threw around 150 innings this year. Thus, we can't say he is wearing down as the season has gone on. Instead, an arm/shoulder issue is more likely the culprit.

Sale has a violent delivery. I don't think anyone would be surprised to see that delivery catch up to him (at some point) and cause an arm/shoulder issue.

Based on the time he spend on the DL this year, and the crap we saw last night, I would not even approach Sale with a long term extension in the offseason. Too many red flags.

Well, it could still be viewed as "breaking down," since both DL stints happened in the second half of the season.

I'm not sure if this whole "mechanics" argument is just a ploy to take the focus off an actual injury, but there is a chance that once he fixes the mechanics issue he incurred after missing time (not uncommon), he may prove there really is no major arm issue. We may know more next game.

Sale has a violent delivery. I don't think anyone would be surprised that that kind of delivery would eventually catch up to him.

Can't argue with this.

Um, what did you think it was? Did you read through it at all?

It really doesn't matter what the thread is supposed to be about. Just about every thread inevitably gets off track at some point or another anyway. Which is fine by me.

On the topic of Sale, I hope the Sox do not re-sign him to a monster type deal.

Huge contracts to position players are bad enough. Huge contracts to aging pitchers is asking for trouble.

As much as I love Chris Freakin' Sale, I agree.

We could even have a game thread for the sensible people here. Hmmm...

Get serious. Do we really have to stick to the year 2018 on this thread? You say you don't care what's discussed and then you question it.

If you're not interested in the topic of Chris Sale's future you just have to disregard any posts about it. Pretty simple.

I'm very serious. I could care less what you discuss. Oh I forgot - pretty simple!

I get it - sensible people agree with you. s*** I'm just not sensible i guess.

Maybe you as well I'm thinking. I'm fine with it myself. I am for sure very sensitive. It's a trait I'm proud of.

FWIW when I was referring to sensible people I was talking about the people who don't post regularly on the game threads, so I was including you as one of the sensible ones.

Sorry for being so snappy today, the playoffs are doing this to me.

oh I get it - I apologize for just doing what I do although I'm glad I still do it. I like passion. It keeps me from believing that I really am 67. You have passion. I like that. Sometimes i get very frustrated with this forum and try to convince myself to take a break but it just doesn't seem to work. I like it here. i'm also liking the fight in our team right now!

I just want to make one point. I have been around a long time. I have lived through all of the disappointments and , finally, the triumphs. This year's Sox team is the deepest, most versatile and overall best that I have seen. A team that every fan could get behind. Alas , so many Sox fans have become what we always have hated. Spoiled , entitled, front running , scapegoating, whining crybabies. " The umps are against us , the announcers are against us , this guy sucks , that guy sucks , the manager sucks , get this ******* out of here , etc. ". Then , magically, all is forgiven when things go right. Sickening. A read through one of the game threads is puke inducing. Where did all of these pseudo fans come from ? And please don't tell me ," we all root in our own way ." Sorry . I like to have some fun on here , but I just had to make this statement.

Agree 100%.

Sale is starting to deterioate at an alarming rate. He is so spindally and fragile.

We need him to get over his stomach problem and give us three great upcoming starts to get us another World Series win!!!

What's really amazing is the bitching that goes on AFTER A BIG WIN.

Yeah. They still focus on all the negatives. Won't even enjoy the win. I guess they think the game is easy. Or they just like to complain. Maybe both.

But you're paying the guy big fees to invest your money, aren't you?

Not really. You are comparing giving a big contract to a player with deciding to give your money to a crook. Two different things.

Great post. The game threads are a total nonsense. Complete mess. Your assessments are spot on.

People didn't know he was a crook at the time.

I'm just quibbling with the term 'worth'.

First of all, I agree. I mean, this really isn't the best Soxteam I have ever seen, but it certainy is the most successful one in the regular season. But these are two thinghs certainly can be mutually exclusive.

The whininess is kind of silly and why I largely avoid game threads.

But I also think it's fair to recognize that a certain portion of the game thread whininess is a cathartic expression of frustration or disappointment at a particular game situation, and might be a better outlet for some people than, say, beating their poodle or downing multiple tequila shots.

Of course, another portion is whiny entitled Sox fans who cannot comprehend that MLB is a very balanced game, losing does happen, and sometimes today's loss is run a certain way so as not to jeopardize tomorrow. And players don't get cut nor managers get fired over one game. Not even Grady Little...

"Worth" is the most misunderstood and misused concept in the English language. I admit I don't really get it.

I mean, if I have THE Honus Wagner baseball card, I can find experts telling me it is "worth" $2.1 million dollars. But what if I can never find anyone willing to pay me that much for it? And if I can only find get, say $1 mill for it, does that mean it has a new value or I was ripped off or what?

Note: I do not have that card. But I do have a 1973 John Ellis Topps All Star rookie card which has equally questionable worth...

In my state "worth" is described as 'what a willing buyer will give a willing seller in an arm's length transaction' when talking about real estate. That seems reasonable to me when talking about sale of tangible goods.

However, in terms of hiring people to do a job I'd define 'worth' as the amount of money an employer can pay a prospective employee and expect to make a profit from the employee's labors. Of course the important word in that sentence is "expect". Sometimes those expectations are met and sometimes they aren't. When they're met the employer is the 'winner' and when they're not the one who gained from the transaction was the employee.

And then there are situations that defy any rational description of 'worth'. As I've said before here, if a person discovered a drug that would prevent a person from ever having cancer he/she wouldn't make as much money in their lifetime as Mike Trout will.

You won a game at home with your offense. Your team got no further clarity aside from the known Price playoff bugaboo and Kimbrel continuing to struggle. The Stros are actually better on the road. They are throwing 2 of their battle tested starters, although I know Keuchel doesn't have a great history vs the sox. This is gonna be a fun series. Before the series, I thought Astros in 6. After game 1, I was thinking Astros in 5. After game 2, I think this series is gonna go 7

I'm not sure 'clarity' is a real thing here. The Sox and the Stros were the 2 best teams in baseball this year, but we have seen quite a bit of weird and ugly stuff so far.

But that's the nature of MLB. It's not necessarily pretty and the results don't necessarily make sense. All that really matters is who gets the W and who gets the L.

Astros were better on the Road last year too. In Play-offs, there is nothing like Home.

I don't know, we did pretty good in Yankee Stadium.

In Canadian tax law there's a term 'fair market value' which has almost that same definition except it adds the key word 'informed' to buyer and seller.
