So, we can go 92% to sleep on them. Still says they win 100 though. (the Orioles this year only-yes)

Unfortunately, the league, outside of about 5 teams, is so weak that the Yankees not making the playoffs is unlikely to happen.

We can hope though. :)

Sanchez sucked ass this year.

Exactly! Judge is a big loss, but Sanchez has a .699 OPS, more errors than all but 5 catchers in the AL and is next to last in passed balls in the AL. Anyone claiming this is part of the problem is just looking for excuses.

The only team missing Sanchez this last series were the Red Sox.

On the contrary, the Red Sox are one of the few teams he played well against.

For the season against Boston (6 games): .286/.360/.667 with 2 HRs and 8 RBIs

For his career against Boston (32 games): .280/.320/.598 with 12 HRs and 33 RBIs

Perhaps the Yanks main concerns right now are to be certain to win home field for the Play-in game. And try to decide whether they want Severino or Tanaka as their starter in that game. Tough choice right now.

is .667 with zero defense "playing well"????

Question is the Play-in winner the automatic 4th seed or does better record trump division winner (Cleveland)? If it is automatic, we pretty much know the match-ups for the semis. Sox vs Yanks Houston vs Guardians.

I don't believe records enter into it.

4th seed (play-in winner) plays #1 seed.

Then, this thread will be quite active in Oct., I surmise.

I would think so. That .667 is slugging pct not OPS. His OPS in those games in 1.027.

We all know he sucks at fielding balls in the dirt. But he is an above average pitch framer and holds runners well with his arm. He'll never be mistaken for a gold glove catcher but it's not like he's a ******** at every aspect of catching.

Lord knows the Yankees miss his hustle.

"Active" is a polite way to put it.

I'm thinking more like a mosh pit.

fair point and agreed. my mistake on thinking it was OPS.

Sanchez sucked ass this year.

He has, but he is also streaky. He could hit 15 homers in a month or hit 1. When he gets hot, he carries the squad. He's not a .190 hitter, and all of you know it

I don't think he's a .190 hitter either.

But his track record isn't really long enough to say exactly what he is yet.

He's not, but he also does not have enough of a track record of success where his absence can be used as a legitimate excuse for losing.

I guess I should have read the rest of the thread before posting, then I could have just said 'Bellhorn04 is 100% right'

I almost wish the "race" was close so I could care?

Thought about taking tomorrow off, but I just can't work up enough hate? Something is not quite right in the universe.

Now.... IF / When the Yanks win the 1 off, I think I can still dig deep & bring the hate? They win game 1 of the ALDS? All bets are off!

if we had better weather today i was seriously considering going to the game to try and catch the celebration live.

They got the whole day. The rain is supposed to go away in the evening. They will get this one in.

true but sitting through a rain delay all day is something 20-30 yo Slasher would have done. i'm dead contract money - way past my prime of sitting in the boogie down rain all day....

Well, if we give the Yankees another tough series, the team penciled in to win it all in March might wind up hitting the road for a wild card game...

The game has been re-scheduled for 7:00, so no waiting all day. No Judge tonite.

I hadn't even realized it was originally scheduled for 1:00 till just now.

Yes. And his defensive lapses, which equal his home-run prowess in number, may end up messing with his ultimate offensive output. I wonder: is Sanchez working on a second position.

So much for all those fans who called in sick so they could go today...
