SSS alert. His career LF numbers are better than his career RF numbers.

Yes, but Fenway's left and right fields play a lot different than most.

I just think he needs more time to play in LF and RF before we deem him "better" in RF than LF. His tool set seems a better fit for LF. Heck, I remember Manny wanted to play RF when he was signed. Glad they kept him in LF. JD? Remains to be seen.

That may be the understatement of the day.

I fail to see how any reliable set of metrics can be built to compare LF'ers to RF'ers in Fenway due to the shape of the outfield.

IF Mookie or JBJ were installed in LF wouldn't their Range Factor go down? They wouldn't have the ground to cover to let the trained observers know which balls hit off the wall they would get to. Without that data all that could be said is that they can go back as far as the wall, and maybe more but we don't know how much.

That brings me back around to JDM and why is he in RF??? Does he really cover more ground in the OF than Benintendi? Is his arm really better than Beni's?

I don't disagree with that. I would expect him to be a better LFer than RFer as well.

The other piece of this puzzle is Beni playing in LF versus CF.

The metrics now take the oddities of certain outfields into consideration. Once upon a time, they didn't, but there are now adjustments made for things like the Green Monster.

And the highly rated and appreciated metric folks would be right.

But much to your dismay, putting JD in RF has nothing to do with him actually be a good defensive right fielder. It has to do with JD being slightly less bad in RF than he is in LF, and with Beni being way better in LF than he is in CF.

I'm not dismayed by that at all. You get to feel any way you like. You can continue to explain to me why JD is so bad out there. I just haven't seen it yet.

I thought your post was snarky and inaccurate which is why I pointed out the inaccuracy. I let you slide for the snark. And there is nowhere in that post where he says that JD is a good RFer. That's why I left out the language. Not to cherry pick. it was extraneous to his point which was that the analytics showed the OF alignment with JD in RF was the best.

thanks for that.

LOL!! When I turn on the snark, I make an extra special effort to be right. So many people are snarky when they are wrong. It's a terrible look.

Beni is f***ing terrible in CF. That’s why JD is in RF when Cora decides its JBj’s turn for a vacation day....

How is he terrible in center field?

I don’t like Benintendi in CF either...

I prefer him in left. Especially since he has shown improvement out there this year.

Pretty sure some knob will post extraneous data that they believe shows that Bennie has shown no improvement in left.

Have at it nerds.

Can you at least agree that the other 3 are all better than he is?

My cue?

Actually his UZR/150 went from -0.3 last year to 3.5 this year. Now it could go back down as the season wears on, but to date the metrics support your observation...

Oh I am overcome with joy that some metric affirms what I can plainly see.

Good. I can finally sleep.

Yes notin I can agree with you for sure there. For the record, I never even hinted at saying he was good in right field. I for sure never said that he was good in left field. But I have to say that anyone who doesn't think that he has looked decent out there is being unfair to one of the best players we have had playing for us in years. If he starts screwing up, I will certainly admit that I have been wrong. That is not a problem for me. I'm wrong a lot! lol

Now lots of people here have said that JD is just a piss poor outfilelder no matter where he plays. Most of us can agree that right filed is a pretty damn tough outfield position to play in Fenway. Benintendi has played a whole bunch of centerfield. He isn't f***ing terrible out there. Or if you think he is, do you think he is worse in cf than JD is in right? So lets see - You leave Beni in lf, move Mookie to cf, and you put a guy in right who just literally sucks? I don't agree with that. If Cora thought that JD was as bad as past metrics point out, he would have left him right in left field, moved Beni to center and left Mookie in right. I agree that it isn't as good as when you have JBJ out there but it is better than having one blackhole playing in right. That really is my opinion. Slasher don't turn this into a shitstorm for me. This is really all about me not buying in to every aspect of what the people doing the metrics are pumping out. I see the value in using them but I will never buy into thinking that they are right all of the time.

JD in RF: -4.3 UZR/150

Beni in CF: -4.8 UZR/150

They are both not great at those positions. JD's arm in RF is much worse than Beni's arm in CF. However, I bet Beni's arm in RF would be even worse. Defensively, neither is a great option.

My observation has nothing to do with JD in RF. It has everything to do with what beni has done when given playing time in CF at Fenway Park. Obviously the sample size is not very big but it has gotten big enough that Cora has finally switched from moving beni to CF for JBj’s off day and is now going to use Mookie. Beni has proven to be a s***** CFer in his opportunities.

And Cora also sees these guys play the OF before games. He knows far more about their OF abilities than any of us do.

Works for me. Good observation.
