Machado and Puig are both players that strike me as "punkish" type players.

The Dodgers would be a difficult team for me to root for.

Also interesting to note that the Athletics have closed the division lead to just one game. It's amazing how well they have played and how much ground they have made up.

Both of those guys are hard to like. I think from what I have seen Macholo is definitely a punk and Puig is probably just an immature bonehead.

Although I must admit I have seen much more of Macholo than Puig so my assessment may be biased!

Any true Boston sports fan should loath anything regarding LA sports.

"Beat LA" is in the Bible, I think.

I think what the A's are doing is great for baseball.

On the Puig stuff, the unwritten rules of baseball guys in the Giants clubhouse are just as annoying as Puig. Why can a pitcher throw a fit on the mound and not be called out, but a batter gets upset and the catcher has to intervene for some unknown reason?

If Puig was white, I'm sure some people would call it playing with fire.

I think it has more to do with Puig's history. He has a reputation for rubbing people the wrong way.

I'm not sure who you're talking about in the Giants clubhouse?

A lot of the perception of whether a player is a punk or not probably depends on whether the player is on your team or not.

I am guessing that if either Machado or Puig had played their careers with the Red Sox, I would not consider them punks.

Personal bias, for sure.

Dirt dog? No. Hot dog? Yes. Puig is a textbook example of a hot dog. I saw him do the same bat-flip thing on Monday night. He does stuff like that all the time.

If he was white he wouldn't be treated differently. Lackey certainly didn't get a pass for his little routine of showing up his fielders.

I loved Manny Ramirez' hot dogging, or showboating, or whatever you want to call it.

Some of Manny's stuff was quite enjoyable. But some of it crossed the line too IMO

I am sure it did. And if he were doing it against us, I'm sure I wouldn't like it nearly as much.

My only beefs with Manny were a handful of plays where he didn't give it full effort.

Overall Manny was a joy.

Shane Baz is the third (and final) player in the Chris Archer deal. At first, this looked like a pretty good deal for the Pirates, but with the inclusion of Baz, the advantage shifts to the Rays. The Rays now have several high upside SP prospects. Pretty impressive:

Sanchez and Franco are great prospects. Hernandez is a really nice catcher prospect. McClanahan is an interesting prospect too. The Rays could be really good in 3-4 years.

I think the unwritten rules of baseball are easily the dumbest thing in any sport. The logic of the Marlins "needing" to hit Ronald Acuna because they cant get him out is just stupid. If you are that offended by his homers, maybe don't give them up to him?

Do you think V.Guerrero Jr. has proven he can handle Double A pitching? He only hit .402 in Double A. He is currently in Triple A where he is hitting .353 at the age of 19 years old! I guess he will be in the major leagues sometime next year. Problem is, the Blue Jays might not surround him with sufficient talent at the major league level to win divisions. I guess he will be another Mike Trout, one of the best players in the league but on a so-so team.

Looking at the Blue Jays farm system, they have a few other quality prospects, like Bo Bichette, but the system isn't loaded with talent. To win with Guerrero Jr., they will probably have to spend big money on free agent pitching. Are the Blue Jays prepared to do that?

I agree with that completely. That said, since the Marlins did hit Acuna, retaliation is 100% in order. I am a strong believer in the unwritten rule of having your teammate's back.

The AL Central is embarrassing. The A's, Mariners, Angels, Rays, Phillies, Nationals, Brewers, Cardinals, Pirates, Rockies, Dodgers, and Giants are all behind in their divisions, and they would all be leading that division if they replaced the Guardians. The Guardians are the only team over .500, and they're only 19 games over in mid-August, which isn't even that great. There's a very good chance that three of the five teams in the AL Central won't win 70 games. The NL West is almost as unimpressive, four of the five teams are separated by six games, and the top three are separated by only two games. The D-Backs are leading at 12 games over .500. Has there been another season in recent memory with this many mediocre teams? There are 30 teams in baseball and NINETEEN of them are 10 games or less over .500. Edited by Youk Of The Nation

He is absolutely MLB ready, I just don't think Jays have any reason to bring him up right now and waste his service time clock.

I agree with that part, I don't think its really an unwritten rule though, in any sport you should have your teammates back. I mean the unwritten rules that caused the Marlins to hit Acuna for no logical reason other than him being good is dumb. That really shouldn't be a thing.

I guess Dombrowski likes the Sox bullpen after all.

Cedeno is having a very good year in his limited role (33 games 25.1IP, 149ERA+, 2.15 K/BB), but he would have had to clear waivers from Boston in order to be claimed by or dealt to Milwaukee. No action?

Ryan Madsen was also dealt to the Dodgers, but it looks like Dombrowski had no chance to get him, as he was claimed by LA, who would have the priority claim anyway.

Well, if we exit the playoffs in our first round, you know what the critique is going to be.... no relief pitcher moves at either deadline..

And while it’s certainly not going to be a provable fatal flaw, it still begs the question of why no bullpen moves were made...

That’ll only be if Barnes or Hembree blow a playoff gane
