Trade Groome.

I'd wait until after he pitches a full season first. His value could spike if he pitches well this year. Right now you'd be selling low on him.

That's assuming he does well in 2018.

Anderson Espinoza had 58 IP under his belt when we traded him for Pom.

Groome has 62 IP, and he's a top 100 prospect already. (Espi was top 20.)

I think the CWS are looking at a rebuilding window that looks at least 2 years down the road. I don't think JBJ fits into that model.

The White Sox want prospects, and good ones. St. Louis looks like a perfect fit...

Could the prospects we get for JBJ outweigh what STL is willing to offer?

(Personally, I'd keep JBJ and just sign Santana.)

I really hope we do not trade any of our outfielders. I am more than William not to show young the door and give Brentz a shot.

I am very hestitant to sign Martinez as we already have a ton of walking/ repeatedly injured players.

I am also not a fan of hosmer and starting to sour on Santana.

I would like to see us sign Matt Adams as I think his swing is custom made for Fenway.

Too bad he can't use it to hit a baseball.

Matt Adams is Carlos Santana at the plate, but without discipline and contact....

St Louis has a good farm and a lot of OF depth with close big league proximity. Abreu is a monster. His return should be massive

You are right about Adams' lack of plate discipline. Santana is the better overall offensive player (not by a large margin) and the better overall player. He also seems to be the best fit for the Sox. The only thing I don't like about him is the QO that he has attached to him.

I think JD, Hosmer, and Abreu are going to cost more than they are worth. But, the market may surprise us.

I'm not so sure the CWS are looking for ML ready prospects over ones 2-3 years away.

He really hasn't been on the DL a lot, and the injuries he sustained do not seem chronic in nature.

In theory, Bradley should be worth more thsn Abreu in a trade. But that doesn't mean Rick Hahn reads those theories....

I hope we don't trade JBJ, even if we sign JD Martinez.

I'd just DH Martinez and hope HRam can play 1B full time. If he ends up getting hurt, we'll save the vesting option and find a c heap 1Bman mid season.

(Again, I'd consider signing Duda or M Adams as 1b insurance. I'm not that high on Travis or Swihart at 1B.)

Maybe just sign JD, Bryan Shaw and a couple cheap 5/6 starter type vets.

Yeh, I'm of similar opinion. I don't want to trade JBJ if we don't have to. JD seems like a great fit at DH and 4th OF. I'd try and sign Lynn because I'd like another SP. So, get Jd and Lynn and call it an off-season. To me this would be the easiest path to me feeling good about our chances to compete next year.

Just saw a report from Olny saying that Martinez SHOULD command about 6/150.

Is he actually worth that? Do fans want the Sox to spend huge just to have more power?

I don't like the price and duration. I don't like the idea of DD doing little or nothing to address the lack of power but the Sox are in a pickle if they want more runs.

I'd like to be able to count on our star players having better , more productive years in 2018. I just don't see enough of that happening to make a big splash worthwhile.

Maybe filling 1st base with one of the budget options and getting more pitching is the way to go.

I would love to see Abreu at 1st but not if we weaken another position ( like CF ) to do so.

Guardians only offered 3/36. Not sure why he'd get 25 per now?

You made a boo-boo.

That was before my afternoon coffee. Sorry everyone!

Unlike some posters, I'll admit my mistakes!

I just have this uneasy feeling DD does not get Martinez and the Sox take a band aid approach to adding power.

This is why I have been saying re-sign Moreland.

I think we'll make a very strong bid for Martinez.

John Henry can see that this is shaping up as a s***** offseason for the customers otherwise.

They efffffffing better.

There are still plenty of glitzy players available.

Ohtani was a risk and unknown.

Stanton is the only big domino to fall.

Give DD & Henry a chance.

I really hope the Sox don't trade JBJ. Is the upgrade of JD over JBJ in the outfield really worth the difference in cost? Our outfield defense would take a big hit.

If we do sign JD, I hope it's with the intent to mostly DH him, or maybe he can learn to play a solid 1B.

From what I'm reading today, it sounds like Dombrowski is more inclined to trade for a big bat rather than waiting out the market for JD.

We might not get JD, but Dombrowski will acquire a big bat.

Book it.

The Cleveland offer to Carlos Santana reportedly came before free agency but the Guardians are expected to go higher:

JD could fill the 4th OF'er slot and probably play 30-40 games with no OF injuries. He would play in the OF when we play in NL parks. DH'ing the rest of the games makes the most sense.

With our IF defense looking very shaky, we should not weaken the OF defense, unless we have to.

We could start the season with this IF:

1B: HRam

2B: Holt

3B: Devers

SS: Bogey

That is not really as bad as you say.
