He Who Must Not Be Named?

Hey, I'm not dragging politics into this! A week ago I mentioned something about how the general tenor of discussion in this country had declined in the past year and I was severely admonished for it! :)

I did not admonish you. You can be sure of that.

But yeah, politics are verboten on Talksox. For good reasons.

You're right. It was not you.

I was in a reflective mood at the time of the post, disappointed over the hostile tenor that had taken over this forum. The "mistake" I made was attaching a timeline to it.

I learned. But what is good for me is also good for the person who admonished me.

Hey look on the bright side- people with some good old school ways of looking at things are still tolerated for the most part. If they knew my views about the influence of social media on society in general they might chase me off though. lol

You and I need to share a table with a couple of beers on it sometime. I get the impression we agree on a lot of things. :)

Always? No. See Jacoby Ellsbury and Jason Werth who were both signed in early December.

That's because Bore-A$$ was shocked someone would pay that much and wanted to sign before anyone's mind's changed.

Lovullo on Martinez: ‘I don’t think I’ve seen a more passionate, smarter hitter walk through his day-to-day activities.’

Nope. The Boras narrative is overstated. He's not the devil. His clients will sign early. His clients will sign below market deals if they want to stay.

I don't see Abreu as a significant upgrade over Santana.

I suppose we could sign JD and trade JBJ for prospects to flip to the CWS for Abreu, but I'd still rather just sign Santana or maybe even Morrison.

The real thing is a MUCH more favorable contract potentially.

Abreu is projected to make $17M in arb this year. He may make over $20M the following year. Two years of team control. That's about $38M/2.

Santana might make $48M/3 or $60M/4.

Abreu's Age 31-32 seasons vs Santana's Age 32-34/5 ones.

Abreu's ceiling is higher. Santana I think is the clear high floor candidate of the 1B sorts.

@PeteAbe

Boras defended JD Martinez as a RF, saying metrics are skewed by Betts and Heyward. But also said Martinez would adapt to a team that wanted him to DH.

We all know who coined the phrase "Fake News". Please leave politics out of this forum. Thanks.

It seems to me that the occasional political zinger is permissible on here , as long as it comes in from the left , so to speak. Personally , I think all political comments should be discouraged. Both right and left. We have seen what they have done to other forums when permitted to run wild.

Yes, that's definitely the same as saying "liberal pussies."

That's not true either. A700 is right wing and will say some vaguely political things from time to time and usually gets a pass.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo on J.D. Martinez: "I don't think I've seen a more passionate, smarter hitter walk through his day-to-day activities. He studies, he watches as much video as I've ever seen." Arizona is hoping to re-sign Martinez but...
