Oh boy oh boy here we go. I actually agree with this old school, outdated, non intellectual, baseball way of looking at things.

Jacko makes sense.

Trade not signing. The Angels agreed to pay his full remaining contract.

Well, I’m sure somebody has to sign something for any trade to go through. ;)

Great, we have about a thousand posts complaining about Betts leading off to look forward to. Welcome to Boston, Mr. Cora.

This is the only way I bat Betts first....

1) Betts

2) Beni

3) Abreu (3 way trade involving JBJ)

4) JD Martinez

5) Devers

6) HRam

7) Bogey

8) Pedey

9) Vaz

If we sign Santana and trade JBJ for a pitcher, I might sub Santana for Abreu in the above line-up, but would prefer Betts 2nd or 3rd...

1) Bogey

2) Beni

3) Betts

4) JD

5) Santana

6) Devers

7) HRam

8) Pedey

9) Vaz

Nah, Signing JD would lengthen our line-up. You won’t hear me complain next year about it, unless it really doesn’t make sense or it’s just not workng for an extended period of time.

I like betts in the lead off role.

Betts

Benintendi

Pedroia (when healthy)

JD

Hanley

Hosmer

Devers

Bogey

Vazquez/Leon

We signed JD and Hosmer already? ;)

 He knows what to expect coming to Boston. Big market team like this there is always drama over certain players or situations especially if that player isn't producing. Pedroia (even though getting old) is just one of those players I trust will make a full recovery and be fine come baseball season.

He wants to do it because of the success he saw in HOU. I'm fine with this change. He hits pretty much the same wherever he is in the lineup.

The #3 hitter is almost always the best hitter in the lineup

Yes, but only because tradition dictates that. It's not the way it should be.

When we had Ortiz I was fine with it. If we get JD I'd be fine with it. Still, It's not what I'd do... and I also think it shouldn't be written in stone. As the season progresses we can get a feel for how we need it. Ex: Say 2 months in, XB's and/or Beni's BA & OBP is through the roof but still no power and Betts is looking like he'll put up 30HR again, I'll be looking for a change.

I would be fine with it regardless of who we pick up, but I agree that the lineup construction could change depending on who we get and on how things are progressing during the season.

Not from me. Welcome to Boston, indeed!

Wish we could just cut him. End of an era, thanks for the memories, time to move on. This team needed a leader last year, and he was his typical whiny bitch self.

Like all wide bodied 3b's, they eventually need to move across the diamond. Devers will not be a 3b beyond the age of 30. Book it right now. He has the looks of a young Nelson Cruz. The kid will fill in and when he does, 3b will be a distant memory but his power should blossom. I like Devers a lot, I just think long term, he is your 1b

30 is like 9 years away from now?!?!?!?? Are you already prepared to have him play through age 40?

Yes, our fractured clubhouse was made obvious by winning the division.

What an unlikable team!!!

I was annoyed by the Pedroia stuff. The Price stuff was weird. Overall, I liked last year's team though. Lots of underrated fan friendly guys like Xander and Vazquez that don't get their due.

Maybe if we can fracture it more we can take the American League!!

I also asked Dombrowski if he was committed to Rafael Devers as his third baseman and he said yes. What I was getting at is possibly signing Mike Moustakas and moving Devers to first base.

“Yes, we’re committed to him,” Dombrowski said. “If somebody said here’s a great third baseman . . . but we’re committed to him at third base.”

This is the same guy that said there are no surgeries planned....

If we lose out on JD, Hosmer and Abreu, I don't see many other good choices than Moose.

I guess Morrison could repeat 2017, but I'd go for Moose and improve our D and power.

Moustakas will sign long before all of those guys.

Why before Hoze and Morrison?

There's no real competive market for any 3B beyond Moustakas. Even the creative solution (Cozart) is off the table.

Teams looking for a 1B have to decide between mulitple options and price ranges. Teams looking for a 3B have to decide how close to Moutakas' agent's demands do they want to come?

Guys still available:

Adams (meh)

Alonso (short deal for cheap?)

Bautista (no)

Bruce (rather not)

Duda (pass)

Ethier (platoon DH for cheap?)

Frazier (transition to 1b?)

CarGo (not sure he has much less, but how cheap could he be for DH/bench bat?)

Hosmer (NO, too much $$$)

Lucroy (transition to 1b? outside the box, but prob too much $$$)

JD (Gimmie a Hell Yeah!)

Mitch (Ugh)

LoMo (On a 1 year deal only)

Moose (Pass)

Napoli (nothing left in the tank)

Nunez (is he really worth the $$$?)

Rasmus (another platoon DH option)

Reynolds (even when he mashes, his offense is just replacement level)

Werth (the guy we should have signed in 2011)

Chris Young (please no)

Pedroia to go on rehab assignment in Pawtucket starting Monday. Look for him in Boston within a week or two

If true, GREAT NEWS!

The return of Pedey will not only help out our weak IF defense, it should strengthen our bench and give Nunez some rest he may need to try and get back to 2017 form. We may even DL Nunez to allow Swihart another 10 days to try and show something (hard to do when he never plays).

Pedey will also halp lengthen our line-up and turn the bottom 3 black-hole slots to 2.

1. Betts RF

2. Beni CF

3. HRam DH

4. JD LF

5. Bogey SS

6. Moreland 1B

7. Pedey 2B

8. Devers 3B

9. Vaz-Leon C

(Actually, with JBJ benched, only 1 black hole.)

What would you do with Swihart when Nunez is activated?
