If I was Boston I'd say to Miami we may be interested in Stanton but strictly in exchange for cash - no players.

jeter would hang up the phone without even saying goodbye.

My guess is it will be on the low side.

do you consider taking the full contract + Beni to be "low side"?

that's the price to get it done.

i do that deal in a second if i'm DD.

...and how we got Dice-K for way more than the next bidder.

Posting fees were blind bids. The Sox had no idea what anyone else had submitted.

The "bidding against yourself" angle is usually overstated by fans. The best example in recent years was Chris Davis, whom no one wanted, until Baltimore stepped in with a crazy 8 year $168 mill offer. Sure they could have gotten him cheaper, but they also wanted him playing for a contract he was happy with. No one wants a guy who is unhappy with his deal.

ARod's crazy deal with New York also had significant PR implications. Reportedly the Yankees wanted him in pinstripes when he brought the all time home run title back to the Bronx. Imagine the campaign there. But a lot of that had to be abandoned when he confessed to steroid usage. ..

No, in fact I don't even consider Bogey or JBJ (possibly in a 3-way deal) as "low side".

I'm thinking more like...

Chavis plus any 2 or 3 from Houck, Travis, Ockimey, Beeks, Shawaryn, Scherff or Brannen.

Maybe Groome & Chavis

Maybe we trade JBJ and flip some of his prospects for Stanton and keep one decent one.

Any worry that he won't be able to deal with the Boston market?

it's always a worry for me when bringing in a new player. worth the risk.

"I'm sick of the negativity," Stanton admitted. "Anything positive I've done, there's still negativity. I'm doing this … but the owner’s doing that. I'm doing this, but the team's doing that."

If he was bothered by this in Miami, Boston will put him in the loony bin.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking...a few B/C grade prospects and we take 100% of the contract. I'd love to do it without giving up Chavis, but we'd probably need to.

Depending on how much Henry is willing to spend over the next 2 years, I'd even consider taking on Prado's remaining $28.5 million if it would save us prospects.

I'd give this offer even with Prado included. Too bad he can't play 2B anymore, though.

Jeter is going to trade Stanton to the Yankees, isn't he? http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2017/11/15/whiffs-real-possibility-red-sox-chase-free-agent-sluggers/uwuIbxQzq3sIKo31jPnW5H/story.html … via @BostonGlobe

If this happens, Thunder should be permanently banned from making gamethreads due to his Jeter fandom.

The deal would certainly raise many eyebrows among the other owners.

BTW: The way Jeter handled the Conine stuff and how apparently he has not talked to Stanton at all ... ARod doesn't seem so bad.

Most players just want to be treated with respect and dignity in good times and in bad times.

Some markets are better than others.

If Jeter deals Stanton without getting more than a few marginal prospects in return , they will probably find his body in Biscayne Bay. Some of these proposals are preposterous.

Miami needs pitching! St. Louis has pitching. Square peg - square hole!

Except that Stanton has expressed a desire to play on a coast.

And really, why would Stanton okay a deal to one of the most depressing metropolitan areas in our country when he could be in a hot bed of activity like LA or NYC?

I would be very surprised if Stanton agrees to play in St Louis.

He hold all of the cards. His opportunity to grow his brand will not be nourished by being in that dreadful city.

Stanton has to realize that accepting a trade to St. Louis is going to increase his national exposure and as a member of a playoff race increase the pressure and the excitement.

All pay being the same, winning always trumps losing.

Stanton already realizes going to LA, NY or Boston will quadruple his "exposure" over going to STL. He'll also have a better chance at a ring.

this really shouldnt be a surprise. Jeter is a baby bitch who always got a pass from the NY and national media. an early indication was when he threw a tantrum and refused to move off of SS for the greatest SS to ever play the game.....

Nonsense. He can win in other organizations and St.Louis will never afford him the kind of media exposure that will make him a household name and line his pockets.

LA, NYC, Boston, and probably Chicago can do everything for the kid.

Yup.

I wonder how Pulholtz career would have gone had he been in a media mecca for most of his productive career?

I think he'll be safe. Jeter's entourage probably already outnumbers the number of Marlins' season ticket holders. ..

Stanton will be traded to the team who offers the most.

I seriously doubt that if Jeter thinks the best offer is not good enough, he will keep Stanton.

He'll take the best he can get.

I don't think it will be as much as some think it will be, but I've been wrong before.

He already has a contract that guarantees him $295 million over the next 10 years. Those pockets are lined and stuffed.

As for being a houselhold name, he just won MVP. I think that got him some fairly decent PR...

Reportedly, the Giants offered Joe Panik, Tyler Beede and Chris Shaw for Stanton and Dee Gordon. Beede did struggle in the PCL, but every pitcher struggles in the PCL.
