Although I'm not sure why saying DD decimated the farm has to be considered complaining. It seems like a fact to me. We all saw it happen. And it does have repercussions today...

Now I'm not even counted because I disagree! whatever shall I do? We all saw it happen except me. wheat stayed chaff went for the most part.

Well sad. It’s funny how quick fans can get used to winning. My little brother is a patriots fan and I swear if they don’t win the Super Bowl this year he will cry

As opposed to you Colts fans who cry every year ;)

Why don't you count? Are you one of those who insists that bringing up the state of the farm is complaining?

Yes, he earned his contracts, but we basically gave up 4 prospects for about $8.6M in value.

If we are going to use fangraph's value, then let's use it to total up Margot and Allen's value and see if it tops $8.6M.

According to one website, Manuel Margot and Logan Allen currently have surplus values of $26.2 million and $15.4 million, respectively:

https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trade-simulator/

To date Margot has posted 4.3 fWAR, valued at $34.7 million, while Allen has posted a rounded-down 0.0 fWAR, valued at $200,000:

you see Slasher that's what I mean. A lesser man would just seem overwhelmed by all of the anti DD ******** that floats around here. Not me!!! I'm just that one old lost ram who sneaked out of the pen when it comes to the talksox forum. Actually I'm stunned and surprised that I haven't been asked to take my act somewhere else. I'm as devoted a fan as most here and have been for many years, it just amazes me how numb i can be to the truth. lol I'm an outlier. In DD i trusted. Now with all that being said, if you would like me to get in touch with my front office contacts to recommend you for the GM's job, just let me know. I would do that for you!

you know i heart you CP. there was one time we actually agreed on something baseball. damn if i can remember what it was. :)

no - I don't care what people complain about really. it is just the concept that some think that they are always right that tends to goad me a bit. I have seen and read everything that has been posted about the "farm". Why is it I just can't buy into the overwhelming majority here who are convinced that he decimated or ruined all that we had in the system? I don't get it. I'm one who believes in listening to others as a rule before I make any decisions. I'm just surprised at myself for not being convinced by all the negative that has been said. My initial response to you was your comment "We all saw it happen". I didn't thus I must not count with respect to your statement.

I know you do. (about the heart thing) It is possible that I agree with you more than I will ever let on too!

Hey I have a reason to cry lmao. The furthest they have made it is the Conf final in the last 9 years (and even at that, they were utterly blown out) It hasn't been a great 5 years with the Colts. Last year was decent but again.... ended in an utter blow out to the Chiefs. I am terrified for next week lol.

So you're saying you're not complaining about what DD did with the farm?

You're not complaining about the Kimbrel trade?

Complaining about Kimbrel trade, which I did that day.

Acknowledging the Pomeranz, Eovaldi, and Sale trades left a devastated farm.

As you are positioning yourself as not complaining about the farm, are you saying Dombrowski didn't bankrupt it and all is well? And we have a steady stream of minimum wage MLB talent ready to fill a few gaps?

As a Sox fan, you should know enough to have faith in Jacoby...

I would say Dombrowski UTILIZED the farm, or EXPLOITED the farm, to get us 3 division titles and a championship. And no, I'm not complaining about it.

Which doesn't mean I'm unaware of the importance of the farm or that it needs improvement.

I have faith in him, but the Colts need a better defense and need guys healthy. He isn't good enough to carry a team on his back in my opinion.... However with a decent team around him he should be good enough to manage and take them to the playoffs.

And I don't think the trades of Espinoza and Beeks devastated anything.

OK,and how would you describe the present state of the farm?

No? You do realize you have to consider how a prospect is valued at the time and not necessarily their subsequent MLB career, which is usually an unknown at the time of a trade. I would say trading away Espinoza, who was a BA top 20 prospect, certainly had a negative effect on the farm...

Depleted, hopefully back on the rise per Baseball America's promoting it to #22.

If you like depleted, that's fine. Right now the Sox are trying to cut their payroll but have limited minimum wage players ready to step in. That can be devastating...

I think devastating is hyperbole. Do we have our work cut out to field a contending team next year or in 2021? Absolutely.

Yes and how much of that will come from the farm system?

Maybe it's me but I fail to get all the crying, whining, and hand wringing about the state of our farm. Yes, it's weak. But there's a reason it's weak. We can speculate all we want about the return we could have gotten for our minor leaguers and whether or not they were "good trades" but there's only one thing that's not speculation. The Sox won the WS in 2018. I know that because I've got the t-shirts, sweatshirts, and caps to prove it!

We might have won with different players or we might have won with different trades but those are just 'might's. Yes, the farm is weak and there aren't the players we'd like to have to fill positions in the next couple of years but I'll live with that every day for the 2018 season and the World Series Championship.

I much prefer that to a t-shirt that says:

"BOSTON RED SOX.

We continue to have the best farm system in the majors".

Rational thought from a good Mainer!
