Dude. You thought the post was a joke, then you RE-READ it and incredibly determined it was serious (how any literate person could do this is beyond me, but so far, so good. We all make mistakes. Even you and me.) But then, you berate posters who over a year ago made this joke as being "stupid" and not real fans. That's what you need to apologize for, not for your surprising failure to understand it.

Lol I did exactly the same thing (assumed a joke post was serious) on something said my Maxbialystock a few days back. It happens. He called himself out on it. It’s over...

My bad lol! I didn’t see when the thread was created. I agree if the season goes the way it does it could get ugly for Cora fast. Being 6.5 games behind the division leader is not pretty and in my opinion Tampa is not going to slow down. They have looked really good....: too good to be pretenders.

Then again..... Seattle has cooled off big time. It’s just too early still to tell what will happen. Everyone outside of Tampa is within a game of each other. This series with the Yankees and Rays will really tell us what this team is made of.

I think there can be no question Cora was a genius last year. Practically everything he tried worked, and it was maybe the best season in Sox history if you skip over 2004 which ended the 86 year curse.

Nevertheless, I have always believed that managers are judged on team wins and losses and whether those comport with what the front office expected or can live with.

While I like most others am mad at the whole team, the rotation is clearly the biggest problem. Those five players and their salaries are easily the biggest investment DD and John Henry have made in a year when the Sox again lead MLB in payroll.

It's quite possible Cora gets the blame for the easy ST for the rotation, which clearly has resulted in a bunch of starters who were/are demonstrably not ready.

The Sox are terrible this year because SCM stuck around for once.

More like Sour Chin Music amirite?

Calling someone out after they’ve already chided themselves is something I can’t support. But nonsensical scapegoating based on coincidence? I’m all for it!!!

I have always felt that a manager's biggest impact on the team is with the clubhouse management, and that a manager's in game decisions have little impact over the course of a season in comparison.

I love Cora. Absolutely love him. But with the whole team struggling and playing lifeless, not to mention that their heads do not seem to be in the game, that has to fall on Cora. Fortunately for us, I have faith in Cora to be able to turn this around quickly.

This is the first time that Cora has faced some adversity in his managerial career . I do think he will do what is needed to right the ship.

Agree with you and Kimmi. Cora is young and can learn from this.

OK, I'll play. Any realistic scenario whereby Cora is shown the door this season? Like, 100 losses? I'm not calling for it, I just wonder how safe he is, and that sounds funny coming off a WS championship. I think even 100 losses wouldn't be enough so soon after a WS championship.

Sorry, but even talking about it at this point is silly.

Farrell had two straight back to back LAST DAMN PLACE seasons and was kept on. Cora is here for a few more years.

If he is caught smashing out Commander Data’s girl he may get axed. Other than that...he will get another year even with a last place finish...

You're right of course, but we have talked about sillier things. The fundamental problem is the rotation and there is not a whole lot Cora could or can do about that. Sale ain't Sale. Porcello is his worst version. ERod continues to be his worst version. And Price and Eovaldi seem to be coming around.

The really unusual thing about Porcello is the walks.

In the past 2 seasons, he’s pitched 203 and 191 IP and walked 48 batters in each season. This year in 11IP, he’s already walked 12!!

And the thing is, those seasons with 48 walks were bad by his standards. That he’s already walked a quarter of that total in maybe 5% of his normal IP is a definite red flag this season...

The innings might finally be catching up to Rick. Hopefully not though.

I thought Sale showed improvement with his velocity way up from the earlier starts. Building on that could bring him around soon. I think the hitting is a serious problem as well. Moreland, Bogaerts, JDM, and Beni when he can play, are okay but the rest need to get it going. No Pedroia now, at least for a while and we chose to put in our weakest hitting catcher. This team needs a lift and soon.

Or it’s a preparedness issue...

Oddly enough, Porcello pitched 12 innings in spring games and only gave up 1 walk.

Who knows, really?

But sometimes pitching against those guys with high uni numbers, you face hitters with worse strike zone judgment...

So if the spring games have no meaning, what's the preparedness thing about? It's all a bit confusing.

That spring training games are meaningless was in response to people saying the Sox need to “turn it on and start winning”. There is a big difference between “meaningless” and “useless” or “pointless”...

I’ve always said spring training games serve two purposes.

1) Get loose and get ready.

2) Not get injured.

They’re like the stretching a runner does before a marathon. Certainly no one monitors the stretching a runner does to determine if he can win, but it gets him ready and helps avoid injury.

The Sox accomplished to second part, but not so much on the first...

What evidence is there that Rick Porcello did not properly get loose and get ready?

The guy is a seasoned veteran. I think he knows how to get ready for a season by now.

It seems that Cora may have altered the starters' routines this ST, due to the postseason innings last year in addition to his philosophy of bringing the players along slowly. So yes, Porcello knows how to get ready for a season, but they might have done things differently this year under Cora's advice.

Well 12 walks in 11IP for one of the best control starting pitchers in the AL, for one...
