I feel bad for the guy. How frustrating would it be for a pitcher to suddenly not be able to throw the ball over the plate?

Hopefully life after baseball is treating him well.

He did make over $4M in MLB-- not that it guarantees happiness in life.

The weird thing about Bard is that his career was only 4 years long, but people talk about his collapse like it came after a long history of success and therefore was clearly some sort of management blunder. ..

Amen, brother Notin.

Moon where did Lackey end up ? Can't find any info on him ? Think he would fit in great with this staff.

Butt Hurt maybe ? Seemed to always sprain that .I do think he may have some left in the tank if not hurt .

Yeah, we really need another injured pitcher right now.

Lackey is done. It’d take him weeks to build up stamina and nobody knows if he has the desire or the health to pitch in the bigs anymore

Lackey actually had a decent second half last year.

When we picked up Fister last year he also seemed to be 'out of baseball'.

Fister was 7 years younger at that time than Lackey will be this year.

So what? I think the question is whether Lackey is still interested in playing or not. He hasn't officially retired.

Why was Sale pulled in the first inning of today's game??

Hit in the left hip with a line drive. Described as a contusion. Stay tuned and cross fingers.

He hasn't got much cushion there. And the team doesn't have much cushion in the first few weeks when we should be making hay. I sure hope he can start next Friday.

Hit on the hip, but he walked off the field with barely a limp. But the dreaded "further evaluation" was announced as well.

Merrero traded to Arizona for future considerations.

Best of luck to the guy. He was the best defensive infielder on this team.

I have nothing bad to say about him.

I guess some people here will have conniptions if Holt remains.

I love it.

It's always iffy to give up first class defense, esp with a questionable infield. And if it's for cash, I mean that's like for nothing.

Anyone watch Marrero goodbye ?? This guy will be missed .....I have to say though Holt !!! Dude earned the spot big time and bulked up to provide more pop .I am sad to lose Devin but excited in what we are seeing from Matt Damon . Edited by Natick to NC

Depending on what we got for marrero, and I doubt it's much, I'd have prefered to put Holt at AAA for depth.

Holt is not a good enough hitter to replace any starter as an upgrade, and his defense is much worse than Marrero's. He's not really th type you should ever use as a late inning defensive replacement either.

Good for Marrero - I hope that he gets a chance to play a substantial role so that at least he can find out what he can do. I always have liked him.

Good for Holt. Obviously he has done enough to impress the boys in charge that he is healthy and able to help this team going forward.

Marrero's bat was just so damn anemic. I wish him the best, as well.

As much as I have been down on Holt for a couple years, I'm glad he's back to form, and I'm fine with him on our 25 man roster.

Basically , Holt beat out Marrero for the final spot. Rightly so. Holt brings more to the team than some give him credit for. As for late inning defensive replacements ; I don't think that is part of the plan. Devers is a rising star. I don't think Cora plans on pulling him for defense late. Let him grow in confidence and develop as an all around player.

Do you ever stop beating this anti-Holt drum?

It's clear you and a few other of your buddies don't like Holt.

Tuff titty.
