Why should he do that?

This is business. He owes DD no such courtesy. Now he could still do it if he felt DD would make a significant counter offer.

Nope, the Sox made their offer. Sink or swim with it.

Because he's a professional and will want to get his client the best possible deal, maybe? Of course he will try to get the Sox to give more money!

You forgot...

Hosmer sucks on defense and should get worse.

Hosmer does not suck on Defense ....We have a guy who sucks on Defense playing Short and one learning the position at 3rd but hey let's say Hosmer sucks as much on D as JD sucks in RF ????? Lol ok sure .

100 million is absolutely a weather balloon it's a non starter it's a fraud offer .I am no agent but if I'm his Dad I'd tell him sit out until 125 rolls in but try to hold out for 130.Dave either wants this player or he's playing a game to leverage someone else ...what is more likely at this point.? Lomo is not a real answer ...either is Duda ....who impacts the current team more if it's not JD ? Who's availability is under wraps so tight RSN is in a tailspin .

Crazy...

Predictions....

1. JBJ gets traded

2. We are shopping Porkchop

3.pedey is gone after this year

4. Xander is traded

5.machado becomes a Redsox and is extended.

6.we get Martinez for 5 at 128

7.chavis plays 2b in 19 as starter for Redsox

8price stays

9.we trade Pomeranze

10.we extend Craig woooohoooo

11. Hanley gets his money

I predict NONE of things happen.

Except maybe number 8. I don't see Price opting out unless he is incredibly miserable. ..

Wow. Worst agent advice ever.

"Son, if you don't get the insane amount I think you're with, sit or and take NOTHING. That'll show 'em who's boss! Do they think they're dealing with some rookie who doesn't know how leverage works? "

Hosmer has posted a negative UZR/150 for 2 straight years and is a strong minus defensively in fangraphs ratings every year he has played.

His defensive bWAR component has been below zero in every season of his career. ..

Hosmer is weak defensively and is maybe the tenth best overall first baseman in MLB. He's absolutely not a guy this team should be tying up long term when they have players like Sale and Betts who would be better use of thst salary...

You're right. He doesn't suck: he stinks horribly. I will be the worst this year or next.

We're not signing JD to play RF. He will DH.

Hosmer sucks badly.

Don't agree old sign Hosmer for 7 years and wouldn't worry about the position for along time .

Are you his agent?

How can anyone be so blind?

You want the worst fielding 1Bman to be our 1Bman for 7 years, and why? Because Bogey sucks at SS and JD sucks in RF. Wow!

You want one of baseball's worst power-hitting 1Bman to sign with the team that needs power more than anything else. Why? Becaue your crack pipe whispers 35 Hrs in your bad ear.

Maybe the best reason to not want Hosmer is that the Padres want him.

He's not coming here. We signed Moreland, who actually can field.

Wake up and smell the smoldering crack.

Can we please just pass on JD? He is an injury waiting to happen and not worth our time or money.

Pitching! We need more pitching!

He's worth $100M/5.

We'd still have about $13M to spend. That's enough for Cobb or Lynn, or maybe Cashner & Watson.

31 1Bmen with 1500+ PAs since 2014

Power ranking (ISO)

Hosmer 29th

Slugging

18th (just .030 ahead of 29th)

Defense

UZR/150

16th out of 16 qualified 1Bmen at -1.9

25th out of 31 with 2,000+ innings

Want confirmation?

25th out of 31 in DRS at -9

Hosmer is not even worth $30M/2.

He's good at getting on base. That's it.

It's not a low ball offer.

JD is a DH.

We never even paid Papi $20M.

Papi was better and had a longer track record.

Can't really use Papi as a measuring stick. He was an anomaly - a fantastic bargain for virtually his whole career.

Okay, then name another DH who made more than $20M a year. Now, make it 5 years.

Assuming the $100M/5 offer is accurate, I'm not sure I'd go above $105M/5 or $88M/4. If he chooses AZ, fine.

We can sign Cobb & LoMo or Cobb, Duda & Nunez for the same money and less years and risk.

He plays in KC ....not Fenway park try to atleast look at the bat for Fenway ..You and I will always differ on who he is and what he would be here ....ThankGod someone didn't write Ortiz off.I shook my head when you wrote he's not worth 30 million .....I would love you to explain that to Peter Gammons who has forgot more baseball than anyone here remembers .Now if we can agree on Freddie Freeman .... I'll feel somewhat better .

Cobb brings plenty of risk.

I'm not opposed to your proposals though. I just wish we'd freakin' do something...this offseason is really starting to drive me nutty.

Alternate ways to characterize DD's offseason to date:

1. Commendably patient and restrained.

2. Hasn't done a damn thing.

There will be nothing comendable about his patience unless he improves this team.

But he signed Mitch Moreland!

***News flash***

Fenway is not an HR park, so your wild projected 35 HR total is way off, especially for a lefty. Although Hosmer is pretty good at going to LF, pitchers can and will pitch differently to him in Fenway-darring him to hit to RF's spacious area.

Don't believe me? Look at the facts:

Hosmer hits an HR 2.9% of his PAs (127/4393).

At Fenway, he hits an HR 2.8% of his PAs (3/109). He had 0 HRs in 14 PAs last year.

Your projection is a stab in the dark.

Your claim that he's a good fielder in based on a dream. He is horrible on D and will only get worse. Apparently, he's good at scooping low throws- whoopdee-freakin-doo!

We already signed a good fielding 1Bman, and we can't trade him until June. If we sign Hoze, it will be to DH, and he profiles even worse as a DH than a 1Bman. JD is way better as a DH, and he'll get 5 years not 7.

He'll be the worst big ticket signing this year. It better not be by us.

Using Gammons as a supporting argument actually helps my position. The last time Gammons was right was in the 80's.

Yes, and so does JD. The risk with Cobb might be 3-4 years not 5, and we can also sign LoMo or Duda+Nunez with Cobb, so the risk is spread out and for a shorter term.
