I keep refreshing MLB Trade Rumors and nothing is happening?!?!?

What happened to Desperate Dave?!?!?

It'll be quite something if nothing happens before Saturday when the tickets go on sale.

Yankees now ~25M under the luxury tax after the Headley trade. Money and war chest of prospects to keep reloading.

Damn, is that when Christmas at Fenway is? That's always a fun time.

Sometimes the fairest way to look at things is in retrospect, and in retrospect while we were gloating about the Yankees not winning he AL East since 2012 they were rebuilding while remaining largely competitive with 3 second place finishes in those 5 years.

Every dog has his day, and through good management and some surprising good luck they've set themselves up for a few years now. However, it's early for them to be dusting off spots in the trophy case for the WS hardware yet. They still have issues to address, the biggest one being pitching.

It sure feels like the MFY are owning the winter meetings so far (for whatever that's worth). Meanwhile, no matter how many times I refresh Twitter, the rumor mill remains quiet for the Red Sox....for now.

Agreed, but...

$25M under the luxury limit.

Very strong farm.

Very strong young core- most with several years of team control and some not even at arb level yet.

Three of the top 20 power guys in MLB, including 2 of the top 3-4.

Huge mistake signing both Hanley and Sandoval.

Biggest question mark is will Price return healthy?

Our rotation, closer and outfield are our strengths, Sale, Price, Pom, Porcello, E Rod, Kimbrel, Beni, JBJ and Betts. We're set at SS, 3B and catching. 2B will be fine with Dustin eventually returning.

To me, 1B/DH positions are critical offensively and at some point, we need to join rest of the league from production standpoint at those two positions. Free agent signing should address one of those spots.

I'm inclined to go with Kimmi's approach. We have enough talent to compete. Not overwhelming. Our starter if all healthy should be one of the best in American League.

Add a bat.

Agreed. 24th in 1B WAR is not going to cut it next year.

Worse, is the .749 1B OPS.

Last year's .807 wasn't really all that good either.

This may be unduly optimistic, but since Hanley has had his "phantom" shoulder surgery - the one DD said wasn't going to happen - is it too optimistic to think that the 2018 version of Hanley might resemble the 2016 version when he played 130 games at 1B and had a WAR of 2.8?

Never said that.

i am a big supporter of Hanram. that said...if what you state happens he will vest for 2019. and i'm not sure even I want that to happen.....

Aw, c'mon. We had a lengthy discussion about DD's saying that no Red Sox players were going to need surgery right after the season ended.

I know, it's tough to be patient and wait to see what Decisive Dave will do. Very few of us want him to pull off a move like Pablo and Hanley or Price for that matter. These moves have hamstrung us for the past few years and remain impacting the club for this year in a major way and perhaps 2019 and beyond. We need solid improvements in the infield at 1st and help at 2nd at the least, along with relief pitching.

To those lauding the Yankees, remember, they cut a deal with A-Rod that didn't work and had other older players weighing them down. They seem past that now. We have to purge our worst moves to move ahead strongly. Hanley at least has some hope of performing better this year as does Price, but I am not counting on it.

If you want to deny that we had a discussion about DD saying that no players were going to require surgery in this off season, and then two of them (ERod & Hanley) promptly did have surgery, have at it. I have more to do with my time than search through thousands of posts trying to find it.

Have a wonderful day.

Saw an interview with him last week - probably everybody else did to but it sure sounded good. Kind of like he is excited, healthy and into a new fitness regimen. If he makes us a better team next year, hey I don't mind seeing him vest for 2019. But - oh well not my $

Source says Red Sox 90-10 in their pursuit of J.D. Martinez vs. other(s). Makes sense: he’s the best free agent bat available in terms of production, no qualifying offer.

Even though I got caught up in the euphoria of the signing, Sandoval looks like one of the worst deals the franchise has ever made. I'm not even sure what the allure was looking back in hindsight. A player's performance in the post season no matter how good is not reason enough to make the sign. It is a long season. I still have hope for Hanley - have to- and as for Price, if he can throw, he won't hurt us. If he is healthy, it is more than likely that he will help us. If Martinez is signed, I think that we could have a very explosive offense if things fall into place. Although I do not expect DD to stop there, it might actually be enough. Could be a wild ride with the Red Sox right in the middle of things. Not giving an inch to the Yanks!!! Also, from the sounds of things, Martinez is a great clubhouse guy and a great teammate.

Reminds me of the Red Sox pursuit of David Price, who two years ago was the precise age J.D. Martinez is today.

Hanley Ramirez was a few months older when the Red Sox signed him in November 2014.

Is your point the obvious one, or are you possibly suggesting something else?

1- Sox sign Martinez. 2- Folks on here scream that we overpaid. Curse out Boras . 3 - Martinez out homers Stanton in 2018. 4 - Folks here scream about the future. Curse out Dombrowski. And so it goes.
