Moustakas doesn't have a good glove. You only move Devers off position if a much better glove is coming to Boston.

I agree. The idea of moving the kid NOW without a significant upgrade slotting into third is just f***ing dumb.

Bogey looked like s*** until 2016 when he started to play decent D in the hole. He made big improvements and is now serviceable. There is nothing wrong with Dever's defense that can't be sorted out fairly soon.

Devers winning a Gold Glove seems like a stretch, and isn't even the biggest stretch.

Holt is an awful defensive 2b. To be blunt, he's an awful defensive infielder. Hanley was passable at first, but might be physically unable to handle the position very often. Martinez at first is as unknown as it gets. And really, if he sees himself as an outfielder, might be a deal breaker. Wherever he goes is his choice....

If we get JD, I think we trade JBJ- perhaps (with others) for Abreu or a SP'er.

If Bogey improved from 2016 to 2017 on defense it was by the slimmest of margins.

Moose is a very significant upgrade on defense over Devers.

Worst to average is huge.

He is a much better glove than Devers.

Devers was on pace for 45 errors this season.

Moose has had just one negative UZR/150 from 2012-2017.

From 2014-2016, he placed 15th out of 42 3Bmen in UZR/150 at +3.0.

Devers placed 33rd out of 33 last year at -12.7. (Moose was 22nd at -3.6.)

That's a significant upgrade any way you look at it.

Third base is not played on some geek's spreadsheet.

SSS alert.

The kid should be fine.

Better go take the Geritol as I said nothing about any improvement from 2016-2017.

Weak sauce response.

Typical.

If Devers new instructors can't figure out that it is a footwork issue then they suck. He has the glove and the arm to be solid in that position. Since I don't subscribe to the cliff theory at all, I see 0 sense of urgency with respect to this kid playing third for us going forward. I wonder if the analytical geniouses have a way to measure the productivity of just his footwork?

It’s more than footwork, though. He’s a thick lower half guy who is going to grow out of the position anyway. By the time his footwork improves, his body will have matured into a slower form anyway.

Listen, I think this kid has 30 HR power and the chance to hit for a high average. He’s the goods offensively and he’ll be at least above average offensively if he moved across the diamond. But if you think he’s going to be anything other than a minus defensively, I have a bridge to sell you.

I'd agree with 8 names on that list, but it's littered with too many guys who simply are not starting shortstops, including Javier Baez, who was listed twice. ..

Agree, which is why I don't want him.

Also per MLB Network today, Boras has set the price at $200 mill. I'd just assume go get Stanton, who is far better and has about the same health track record. ..

You are assuming something that might just not happen. His thick lower half has nothing to do with his possibly growing out of the position. Gaining weight as we age does not need to happen. For the record - not sure I'm buying anything that you are selling. If he is lazy and gets fat, you might be right. It is more than simply footwork though - it is also about fitness.

The reason "the kid" was not brought up earlier, despite all the clamoring, was because of his poor defense.

It's not a small sample size. "The kid" has been playing in professional ball for 4 years and close to 500 games.

Sure, he can improve, but right now, he's close to the worst defensive 3Bman in MLB.

$200 mill? Good, my hatred and disdain for Boras feels born anew.

His best defensive season, by far, was 2015. Any talk of improvement afterwards is clownish babbling.

His only minor improvement was from 2016 to 2017. I tried to help you save face, by mentioning that, but you made it worse by doubling down on nonsense.

So, at best he's 22nd out of 30 on D.

If that's "average" then up is down and black is white.

I could see him getting a Hamilton contract, 5yrs $125 mil. Maybe up to $135 mil with inflation. I don’t see more than that

He may get $150/6, but I'm guessing $140/6 or $160/7.

JD is going to the highest bidder. The sox need him or Stanton.

Stanton's contract is too much heat. I think it's a sticking point for any trade partner unless Miami eats a fair portion, and Stanton tears up the get out of jail free card.

Make 'em take Castillo and that would settle the money issue, although it would not help on the luxury tax.

Taking HRam would be better, but Miami will not want him.

Can't believe we would repeat the mistakes of the past and give out high dollar long term contracts to players soon to be on the decline. Got to be a better way of going forward that this.

There is, but we sold the farm for a window.

I know what you mean: $88M/4 and $95M/5 are killing us now, and yet we look to $150M/6.

It's almost as much as HRam and Pablo combined!

I'm fine with going lower but not with Hosmer.

Carlos Santana

Jarrod Dyson

CC Sabathia

Dyson? Defensive CF is not something the Sox need.

Despite Dojii's comps, Dyson is basically Rusney Castillo (1.4 fWAR in roughly 1/2 a season). Pay Dyson the project $12mill and the two are interchangeable...

Sign Santana.

Maybe fill in the blanks in the 7-10 starting pitcher spots somehow.

Hopefully stop taking stupid 1980's style suggestions like "Get a left-handed reliever." I'm OK with a lefty reliever. But not one who is only acquired because he is left-handed.

Get a stopgap 2B in case Hernandez isn't ready or doesn't live up to the task.

Stanton's contract is certainly too much, but he's one of the top position players in the game and he's young.

I'll be really surprised if Miami has to eat much of the contract.

We don't need an offenseive OF'er anymore than a defesnive one. We need a 4th OF'er who can play FT, if needed.
