Season over!!! Some s***** managing there in the end.

Of course it was because it's never, ever the players fault. Only the manager can lose a game and only the players can win one. Yea, verily, it is written. Me, I thought it was a helluva game, a helluva ALDS, and a helluva season.

Listen i am glad they fought at least! Hate when the season's over☹️ Another another power bat in the offseason.

This game was all about late inning failures. The sox entered the 8th up a run and end up allowing 3 to score over the final six outs with the likely CY runner up and Fireman of the Year throwing. The Stros earned it, but the sox big guys choked. The managing was awful. Kimbrel had nothing, and should have been on a tight leash after allowing the game to be untied. He never should have faced Beltran. The late hook cost the sox their season.

Reed gave up 2 (in 1 inning) in his last game--against these same Astros in game 2 of the ALDS.

Devers will be interesting to watch next year.

He got that experience at least. I think he's a heck of a player and the sky's the limit.

Astros are the better team, and played better on the day. A good team lost to a very good team.

Mookie lets the ball get past for a triple.

JBJ in the ninth one run down gets a pitch right in his wheelhouse,,, and .... fouls it off.

Compare how Reddick and Beltran had great at bats and went other way in huge spot, with JBJ and Pedroia (ump blew a couple strikes) don't capitalize w bags full and no outs!!

37 pitches and only 3 swing and misses for Kimbrel!! Give credit to a GREAT hitting team

Would you bring Xander Bogaerts back?

Definitely. Young and full of potential. Maybe not everyone will agree with me but I would.

This. It always sucks losing but we put up a great fight these last games. We were 6 outs away from sending this to a game 5. I'm glad we didn't get swept and I'm glad we showed some life. These last 2 games were very entertaining. We need another big bat on our roster and we will be fine. We will compete again next year for the division and I can't wait. A much better feeling this year than I did last year getting swept by Cleveland.

Btw, can anyone tell me where the RF'er was during Devens' homer? Replays don't have an angle where I can see it. Why wasn't he vaguely in the area to take the carom?

With two more years of team control, the Red Sox should welcome back a 25-year-old shortstop who has posted 4.4, 4.9 and 3.2 fWAR the last three seasons.

Xander Bogaerts may never be an elite player but should earn his keep the next two seasons.

Alternative Facts. He pitched a scoreless inning game 3.

What a game. What an absolute ding-dong. You can criticize the handling of the pitching, but no disgrace losing a game like that. In the end it was the first two thumpings that really did for us in this series.

Congratulations Rick on achieving the pitching grand slam today - hit, walk, WP and HBP.

I hope Rafael Devers does not become the victim of unreasonably high expectations.

Devers has made an impressive debut with the bat.

Maybe he’s just Rogers Hornsby, not Babe Ruth.

It boils down to we had bases loaded with nobody out. Had we even got a couple runs out of that we win this game. The bats were hitting today but in the end produced very little for how many runners we had on base. The pitching wasn't great but the offense killed us by generating nothing out of the bases loaded situation. Of course Kimbrel didn't help. It is what it is we lost a competitive game but we had our chances.

Taken away by two horrifc calls by the umpire.

Well said. It was a heartbreaker to lose the game in the late innings, when Sale pitched so well and Kimbrel is usually lights out. The team showed some fight though, and just got beat by a better team. Nothing to be hang their heads about there. It was a great game.

With the Sox now out, I would not be upset if the Astros win it all. The same goes for the Guardians. Hope the remainder of the postseason is entertaining.

You are truly the master of 20-20 hindsight.

IMO, you have to bring your closer into the game in that situation. I have said many times that it's kind of silly to lose a game in the late innings with your best reliever sitting on the bench. Kimbrel was the right call.

Yeah, I think I agree with this, after seeing Showalter keeping Britton on the bench that time.

I can guarantee you that if Reed had come into the game and coughed up the tie, there would be no end to the 'Farrell is an idiot' posts.

So be it. I wouldn't have put kimbrel in that spot to get one out. I would have brung him in the next inning. It's done already. I am glad these guys at least put up an effort. Gotta get over this hump though. Back to back division titles and can't advance further. It's a tough division. You not guaranteed to be in the playoffs next year.

Tough way to lose.

The bases loaded- no outs- no runs was the killer. Bad strikes called--maybe 4 of them to JBJ and Pedey combined.

Ran into 2 outs in one innings.

2 bad throws by Beni- luckily none led to runs.

Like the pitching moves made by JF. We lost with out best out there.

I hate thinking, "Wait till next year" so soon, but this team just had too many weak spots to overcome.

Good core going into next season, but we need to win the off-season with some bold moves.

You should win or lose with your best on the field. It was the right call.

Had JF brought in Reed, in theory impossible, since he was axed, but yes he would have been an idiot-- which he already is.

We haven't got the wherewithal to win the offseason. We're tapped out and I'm not into giving up Devers or Betts for a Stanton.

We blew the game in the early innings when we had runners all over the bases and only scored one run. We were squaring up everything. Betts hit into a scorching DP and then we sent our slowest guy home on a hit to LF. We left the bases loaded after have none out. Porcello kept the ball in the park but didn't pitch well or efficiently. Sale was great and didn't deserve the L. Kimbrel was awful giving up the go ahead run and the next inning he gave up an insurance run.

When Verlander came into the game, I said to my son that it was a risky move. I mentioned to my son that if Benintendi went deep the Astros would have risked their game 5 starter for no reason if we hold the lead, and then he took him deep. LOL !

I would have stayed with Sale into the 8th. The guy that lost the game for us was Kimbrel.

Pedroia looked awful the entire series. He looked like a shell of himself. He didn't get the ball out of the IF today.

Wait till next year!
