Since I brought zero mojo to this game and missed big chunks of it, I would like to thank all those guys talking about Thunder's eco class today instead. Vintage talksox.

Pom came through--just about a perfect start for him--6 innings, 1 run. Lots of pitches, but that's what he needs to be successful.

What little I saw of the defense also came through. Hitting really came through, especially Beni.

Bullpen apparently had instructions from JF or the pitching coach to scare us fans and onlookers half to death. So I guess that means they were OK.

It was. Sorry, I'm tired. Long day at work.

No need to be. Positing JBJ at $100M for 5 years leads to a much more interesting discussion. Betts for that money almost makes sense. Where's the fun in that?

Bullpen, bullpen wherefore art thou, bullpen? I'll tell you where--out there scaring some pretty loyal fans, including especially those at Fenway.

On to Tampa. Really? The Trop after Irma? Orioles at the Yankees tonight, Miley vs. Tanaka. Strangely enough, both have lousy ERA's this year, 4.96 and 4.82. Miley is 8-12, Tanaka 11-11. Tough luck for Baltimore: Ellsbury is leading off for the Yankees--no Gardner. Jacoby is tearing the League up this year--why did we ever let him go?--and Gardner is just, you know, pedestrian. No fire.

Speaking of fire. I know Beni got those 3 hits and 3 rbi's, but did you see that misplay? Plus he has all that speed and simply stopped trying steal bases or do anything remotely risky. I'm thinking he has no fire.

Careful Max, if you don't ease back a little on this form of humor, you may become afflicted with the dreaded Sarcasm Spasms and never be able to speak normally again.

Funny! He was the bright spot and you know it. NOw Betts, pop-up city all over again. Whether he is looping his swing or swinging down on the ball, I can't tell. It should be correctable. We need him to make an adjustment to his swing.

I misjudged the type of test it is. It's not in class, it's for homework, and it's due on a Sunday morning (9/24) at 9 AM, so basically, when no college kids are awake, although we just got word that there's now a UConn football game that day [and] I will be awake, since I'm going to the game. It's all open note/book/computer, so that makes it next to impossible.

See if you can find those two girls who insisted on feeling you up last week. If you can catch 'em sober it might be a good time! :D

Hmm.. are your parents now going to accuse me of contributing to the delinquency of a minor? :-)

May become? Passed that gate awhile ago. Something just happens in these game threads. i've tried to tone it down a little on the others. Apparently, I seem to enjoy having to apologize and will do so again as soon as moonslav reads that post.

I just like Beni, even with the long hair. This has been a tough season for almost everyone, and he has stood pretty tall, especially for a rookie. Thus do I tolerate his mistakes in the outfield and on the basepaths. Why do we expect perfection--you know, what gets called good fundamentals--when good enough really is good enough, at least for now?

That was me being facetious. Of course he was great.

Beni really needs to shore up that fielding this offseason.

He made another stellar throw to the plate today.

It was fielded by Devers half way up the 3rd base line and 15 feet in foul territory.

It was ultimately of no consequence since an A's runner tried unsuccessfully to get to third and was thrown out in a rundown.

Benni need plenty of work.

Well, there's a girl that lives one floor above me that I've been trying to feel up. Might be a good time to make some moves (with consent of course).

I'm pretty much giving Beni a pass on his defense this year because of his offense and the fact that his defense is better than what I've seen for the past couple of years.

IMO that throw today was the result of his trying to do too much a/k/a trying to do something he can't do. Something players at every level have to learn what they can do and what they can't do, and then stop trying to do things they can't do.

Two things Pedey did right.

-Hitting a double to LCF

-Verifying with the base coach THAT THERE'S ONLY ONE OUT! Watch & learn, players.

I took the game in on the radio today as I was driving. We could use more communication between our base runners and coaches, but the players shouldn't have to ask for the information.

Or he may just be an airhead and we will be seeing these kind of boneheaded plays and misplays as long as he is here. What people are interpreting as a cool unflappable demeanor may just be an indicator that there isn't a lot going on above the shoulders.
