No wonder Price feels like he fits right in on this team.

They're all morons.

Teams have stolen signs since the game began. That's not illegal. Spying off the TV broadcast and relaying it to the hitter is. There will be a big punishment. Manfred said the penalty would be a deterrent for teams from doing it again. If it's a slap on the wrist, then it won't be a deterrent. If I had to guess, $1 mil org fine, fine and short suspension of Farrell to start next year, and loss of first rounder in 2018

yeah....f*** you

You're outta your element, Donny!

You can steal signs within the white lines, that is acceptable, but MLB has to draw a line when it comes to using technology to steal signs. Problem is, if the league doesn't punish the Red Sox, teams will use technology for all kinds of in-game advantages, there is no end to the different possibilities, and so the league will likely come down hard on the Red Sox in order to stop it. I think the Red Sox will be fined and will lose draft picks. MLB has to make it hurt--and no one likes to lose draft picks.

The Red Sox shouldn't have gone there. It makes this team less likeable.

We are going to get slammed by MLB.

How do you take away draft picks if there was a scheme invented by players to steal signs that ownership was not aware of?

Maybe fine the players directly?

@PeteAbe

Anyway, if you’re thinking this is going is going to blow up into something, seems unlikely at the moment.

The Pats were fined and lost draft picks for Deflategate, right?

They lost picks because "Mr Kraft" is a complete idiot who bent over in hopes of Brady getting off and then regretted bending over later.

Yeah, not arguing that, but the principle in effect would seem to be that the team gets punished for the actions of its employees...which is probably on pretty solid legal ground.

I notice that the league is not going after any of the junk teams for stealing signals outside the white lines, but a first place team that just won two out of three crucial games from the YANKEES. It has to be a headline deal involving an old old rivalry so it will last forever and underline the rivalry (more bucks for MLB)

If there at all serious, they should just wire up the catcher and pitcher, because there is NO WAY of policing this technology NO WAY. I'll bet even teams like the Giants and Phillies are practicing their techniques right now in preparation for when their back in the races.

But what about Fister's mouth guard? Will he be able to wear it over his ear tonight?

What about the Yankee's bullpen livestreaming the game against the Angels?

From today's FanGraphs chat with editor Dave Cameron:

12:03

Mel: What degree of moral turpitude do you assign the Red Sox for their electronic sign stealing? Do you believe that Farrell did not know it was happening?

12:04

Dave Cameron: No way Farrell didn’t know. In terms of moral turpitude, they broke the rules, they knew they were breaking the rules, and they did it anyway, so there’s some guilt here, but as far as infractions go, this isn’t that big a deal. Sign stealing isn’t even against the rules. It’s just the method they used that is problematic.

12:05

Bork: Heyman thinks the Red Sox should forfeit all their wins against the Yankees this year. What’s your hot take on punishment for the Red Sox?

12:05

Dave Cameron: They should be forced to connect to an internet that only has Jon Heyman columns on it.

The final line is snarky but I laughed anyway.

That is pretty funny!

I did not laugh when FanGraphs columnist Dave Cameron revisited Jon Heyman later in today's chat:

1:02

YKnotDisco?!: What unconventional punishment would you assign to the 15 year old responsible for the fire?

1:02

Dave Cameron: An internet with only Jon Heyman columns.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dave-cameron-fangraphs-chat-9617/

I am simply heartbroken by the devastating fire reportedly started by a 15-year-old in my beloved Columbia Gorge. Ashes continue to fly outside my window.

Red Sox pitchers should be forced to yell out what pitches they're about to throw for the rest of the season. I see no other logical solution!

At least we can all bond in our hatred for the Heyman.

Sign stealing is part of the game. Speeding up the stealing of signs with electronics is against the rules. Not sure if the broadcast was involved in the sign stealing, but it's a bad thing when the sox crush it when the guy is on second. Also, having someone upstairs figuring out the sequence and being able to relay their findings into the dugout takes away the art of stealing signs and turns it into a science undertaken by guys who don't play. In the grand scheme of things, the Yankees should have known better and should have switched up their counts more frequently. That being said, the sox need to be punished heavily so no other team tries to do this again. If the punishment is a slap on the wrist, then every team will do it

I had the misfortune of living next to Heyman when he was just starting out with the Moline Dispatch over 30 years ago; he was an ass then and apparently still is. I'm long time friends with the guy who was his sports editor back then; he thought Heyman was an ass too.

Applegate.

I see no other option but, for namesake , have Christina Applegate make a public service announcement saying cheating is bad. Then immediately after that, she takes off her shirt.

I assume that when a team is caught stealing signs by electronic means, that team was not first to do it, but felt it had to equalize the competition. There are many ways of adding technical eyes to base runner eyes, and I'm sure each team has at least entertained the possibility, or experimented with one or more of these techniques. The real question is: How do you stop ALL TEAMS from doing so? That would be the fair thing, but it may not be possible, so that certain teams will be picked off now and then to serve as an object lesson. God, if a viewer can see the damn signs, why can't teams learn to relay those same signs??

That's just making excuses. Sox were wrong and must pay. I hate cheating. Let MLB worry about other perps.

Can't disagree. I personally don't like the "legal" sign-stealing because it causes these very complicated catcher signals, some of whom now paint their fingernails.
