Ugh. No game today. Sucks. :(

But you have a dream matchup to fantasize about for the next 24 hours! Prepare to see lots of dingers. Odorizzi has a 2.19 HR/9!

The start of my favorite time of year, when football and baseball overlap. Win. Dance. Repeat. x7

I hope the Sox can win more games this week than UConn football does all year, not that I'm rooting against the Huskies.

Chris Sale has a 1.97 ERA in 23 career starts with 6+ days of rest. He faces the Rays today on six days.

@SoxNotes

Chris Sale has averaged 13.38 SO/9.0 IP vs. the Rays, the highest mark for any pitcher against a single opponent since 1920 (min. 75.0 IP).

Fascinating, against a lefty pitcher our 7, 8, and 9 batters are all lefties (Leon switch hits). 5 lefties in this lineup.

Also interesting that Pedroia is the DH, no doubt because of his knee.

The the Sox Hitting thread, there has been ample discussion of the importance of different slots--that 2d is key, 3d not so key, 4th and 5th key, and 1st does not need to be a basestealer.

But what is abundantly clear--to me, anyway--is that Farrell has thrown off the shackles of a set lineup and is trying a lot of different ones. And tonight's is exhibit 1. Betts is finally, finally batting cleanup, and Nunez has the mission of getting on base as the leadoff. Pedroia is probably a good choice for #2 even though he is rusty. Beni is OK at 3 especially when the stats guys say 3 is inconsequential. The last five--Devers, Bogaerts, Moreland, Leon, and Bradley is kind of like what he has already been doing recently.

No Brock Holt, which is fine with me. Also no Ramirez, which is kind of a surprise.

No Ramirez surprised me a bit but with Pedroia being the DH with his knee I guess it makes sense. Lately changing up the lineup has seemed to work with these guys. They seem to be hitting stride no matter what order they fall in and who is batting. Great to see everyone start to wake up offensively. Nunez and Devers must have that special spark to them to ignite other players lol!!

I like the line-up, except for one thing (see below). I'm assuming HRam's out due to recovery from the injury or is just getting a rest. Moreland has also shown some signs of snapping out of a long and miserable slump. I'm glad JF didn't bat him 4th or 5th.

I would not bat Beni in the top 5 or 6 hitters vs LHPs. He just has not shown the ability to hit lefties well enough to be that high up. JF's obsession with L-R-L near the top of every line-up verges on absurdity.

I will say that nobody else jumps out as a clearly better 3rd slot hitter:

Bogey still hasn't fully snapped out of his long slump. Devers probably should not bat 3rd (yet). Moreland has not proven he's back to form. I'll never understand batting JBJ last, but I've already beaten that horse to death. (I'd put JBJ up 3rd, if you have to have the L-R-L thing. I'm not upset about Beni up 3rd for the reasons just listed as much as I was for hitting Holt up so high recently. I'm glad Betts is up 4th. I hope he stays there to end the season.

When HRam is back, maybe we can see this...

1) Nunez DH

2) Pedey

3) Beni vs R/HRam (1B)v L

4) Betts

5) Devers

6) HRam (1B)v R/Young (LF)v L

7) JBJ vs R/ Bogey v L

8) Bogey v R/ JBJ v L

9) Vaz

Bench:

Young or Beni

Moreland

Holt

Leon

Has the board been up and down all day? I made some posts between 8 am & noon that are gone now, and I notice that there weren't any posts for quite a while this afternoon.

Interesting posts by Max and you, except Pruitt is of course a righty. :P

CC already taken out after 57 pitches. MFY don't let their starters totally s*** the beds and lay in it like Farrell.

That was a quick hook alright.

This place is a ghost town.

Yeah. I've got a new laptop that I'm unsuccessfully trying to work the bugs out of. Who ever thought Windows 10 was a good idea??

Haven't been watching. Was going to ask how Sale looks but look at the score update I see he as usual is looking fantastic.
