Was there any waving and yelling by the base coaches? How could Butterball not get his attention before he hit 3rd base? Dereliction.

No. This was all on JBJ. The play was right in front of him. He had simply made up his mind to score and nothing could dissuade him.

The coaches have to make sure the player knows how many outs are before a hit.

This one........ is on coaching... and you can chalk it to JBJ being an idiot.

So when a guy pulls a rock, the coaches should just put their hands in their pockets? I get that it is Bradley's fault, but Butternut never got his attention. He didn't do his job either.

Bad as that was, the Guardians just topped it. Man on first, 1 out, pop fly that lands on the pitcher's mound because both the thirdbaseman and the pitcher thought the other would catch it. Finally, the thirdbaseman grabs it, fumbles and still has time to beat the runner going to 2d. But the bad part is they also still had time to throw out the hitter who must have decided he was out and didn't have to run it out. Double play, maybe a GIDP by and Indian.

What job? He was in foul territory down the 3d base line. Nothing he said or did would have made have made a difference because by the time JBJ would have seen him, he would be dead meat.

This is the first base coaches lack of chatter I think. Like you have mentioned.

Jackie...... how many outs are there?

Jackie, do you know what you are doing on a grounder to third with one out.

Jackie....... get ready............ run like hell if it's hit into the gap and you an tell they aren't going to get it....

That's a pretty good explanation if true. But how do we know he didn't remind JBJ how many outs?

I nominate a700 for 1st and 3rd base coach (he should be able to handle both). Then after the first boneheaded base running mistake, we can get all over him about not doing his job.

How can you be so sure there was no chatter from the first base coach? I mean, it's fundamental and a habit. You can't stop coaches from talking to every baserunner who sticks around their base. I'm not buying it. I think JBJ misjudged that fly ball, period.

You're right.... I would think it would be a habit. And there would be checks and double checks. Maybe the runner calls out how many outs to the coach, then the coach replies. I think they would jave built in checks into the system.

That looked odd though. If he misjudged it, how did he do so? Did he think it was gone? Into the gap?

he should have tried to get his attention and in a worst case scenario, he should have caught his attention half way to 3rd. By that time, yes, he is toast, but you have to try. The throw back into the infield could get away. Maybe he catches his attention as he turns second and Bradley can slam on the brakes and get back to first base. It is his job to get his attention when the guy is making a mistake.

My gosh our hitters have taken a lot of pitches tonight, including Leon looking at three straight strikes in his first at bat.

And even if he 1B coach briefed him and Bradley thought ball was in the gap, Butterface did nothing at 3rd.

How do you know he didn't do that? I did not see a replay showing the 3d base coach.

This is why I'm not adamant about any of the base coaching calls made on this board. I never see the 1st and 3rd base coaches in the play.

But, I'd say at this point from what we have seen this year, there is something a bit broken.

Wish Sale's pitch count was lower so he could finish it. Our closer better shut the door real quick on this one..

I have to be honest and say that right now I'm not as comfortable with Kimbrel getting the save as I once was. Lately he still gets the K's, but he is also hittable.

Well the blue jays are trying to blow a 4-1 lead in the top of the 8th.

Don't they have a lousy bullpen this year?

I asked the question in my first post whether there was any waving or screaming by Butterball. You responded with a post saying that it was all on Bradley absolving Butter of responsibility. I stated that Butter still had a job to do to which you responded "what job"? Now, you are asking whether I know that Butter didn't try to get his attention. That was my original question. How did we get back to square one? But I guess it is your way of acknowledging that Butter had a job to do on that play.
