Good post. It could happen.

If we got Bruce, it would mean HRam plays 1B FT and Moreland is benched. Not unrealistic.

I've always liked Gray, but the injury situations scare the hell out of me.

I doubt we trade for a starter or a big bat. I think DD makes a move for a solid #2 RP'er (currently a closer like Reed).

Is Reed consistent enough? Gives up the hits + 6 HR's.....

I'm not saying I'm for getting Reed, but I thinks that's the type of deal we'll make.

We need a set-up guy that can dominate. Maybe inconsistency is a by-product and maybe help will lead to our downfall, but I can't see us winning it all with this pen, even if Kelly comes back healthy.

It is interesting how many complain about the Sox offense, and think the solution is Sonny Gray. If Sale couldn't replace Ortiz, is Gray going to?

I expect a reliever. I hope for a hitter. But I'd be very surprised ifb th he Sox acquired anything above a depth starter...

Did I miss something? Who on TalkSox is pushing to get Sonny Gray? The only plus to getting him would be blocking the Yankees from getting him. While he wouldn't solve the problems of our offense, it would keep the Yankees from improving their starting pitching.

If the Red Sox are willing to give up no more than Michael Chavis the Sox probably can't expect to land a reliever better than Addison Reed (and an offer with Chavis might not be enough to compete with other offers).

It is my understanding that Bruce is really lousy at 1b. He has played a total of 10 games at the position throughout his career. The Mets took a look at him at 1b this year and he was bad. With that said, they could DH Bruce and play Hanley at 1b but I doubt the Red Sox have any interest in doing that. To be frank, L.Duda made more sense--he has much more experience at 1b and his power numbers are better than Bruce's this year. Since the Red Sox weren't interested in Duda, I imagine they have even less interest in Bruce.

My best guess: on Monday, the Red Sox will trade M.Chavis and J.Callahan to the Mets for rental, A.Reed. This will be another Red Sox overpay and so it fits perfectly into Dombrowski's trade philosophy.

If I'm Dombrowski, I would shift my attention to S.Gray and would offer a package around Groome. Gray is signed for two more years beyond this one and there are plenty of unknowns with the Red Sox starting staff beyond C.Sale. Gray fits into the Red Sox 3 year "go for it" window. After the three years are up, time to rebuild.

Gray is averaging 6 innings per start and a hundred plus pitches thru 6.

For what Beane will ask in a trade I don't think its worth it by way of a top prospect..

Verlander might be a better option by way of what you give up but then, there is the Tax.

End of day players u have need to perform on the offensive side of the ball.

I just don't know if Farrell has them mentally prepared to play?

I have always wanted Gray on my team. When he was healthy, that is.

Now I don't see DD doing anything of real consequence by the deadline.

I'm cool with that.

Save the bullets for the off season.

This team will not get to the WS this year.

Reload for next year and pray that will be enough before the dive off that cliff.

Reed is a guy I'd be leery about. He's had some good seasons as well as some stinkers. His velocity continues to trickle downward. Also, his HR rate has risen exorbitantly this season. Yes, his K/BB rate is insane this year and his ERA is great, but he's got some signs there that would make me worry about his late game role on a playoff club

I would not trade anyone in our system currently who is capable of possibly hitting as many as 15 plus home runs per year. I would not trade Chavis. He can hit - we need hitters. I'm not in love with really any of the current players on our everyday roster. Devers is young and of course worth keeping - anybody else right now is fair game for the right return.

Dombrowski has come this far to put us in a "win now" position (supposedly), and it's hard to imagine he'd draw the line at trading guys like Chavis and Mata, maybe even Groome, if there are significant upgrades out there to be had. I'm not saying I want to see us overpay for a rental player, but for Dombrowski to suddenly start prioritizing 2020 over the here and now would fly in the face of everything he's done up to this point, and as quiet as things look right now, I wouldn't be shocked if he had a surprise or two up his sleeve...

Reed basically had 1 good year, last year. He's been so-so before that. He's a gamble as far as I'm concern. About what's in the Minors. Nothing Special. Trying to fix this team with band aids. Edited by OH FOY!

If they were truly in "win now" mode, they would have traded for a starter when Price was injured in ST.

Yanks going hard after Gray. I know Gray was suppose to pitch yesterday and they pulled him. Edited by OH FOY!

At the time of Price's injury we still had a rotation of Sale, Porcello, Rodriguez, Wright, and Pomeranz...there were some questions about depth, but no real urgency to make a move for a starter.

If they were truly in "win now and f*** everything else" mode they would have signed Encarnacion.

Wright and Pomeranz were also dealing with injuries in the offseason. Wright never fully recovered from Farrell's hit job.

That is very true too.

Per Tim Brown on Twitter, "Starting to appear Red Sox will get Addison Reed. Three prospects in return. Medicals, details await."

Definitely a good pickup, but hopefully we don't overpay.

Prospects are all pitchers, per sources.

If this is true along with your last post I'd like to throw my hat in the ring and guess that Beeks/Shawaryn are the guys.....maybe some other lower level DSL guy putting up good number who we haven't heard of yet too.

@redsoxstats

Say a quick hail mary about sending out 3 prospects for a rental setup man. Neshek got Rox #21 and 2 sub-30s.

Posted
And just like that I'm hearing rumblings from sources on twitter that it's Jamie Callahan and Gerson Bautista.

If they give 2 top 20 prospects, the trade is dumb. Beeks, Shawaryn and another guy would be an overpay.

Jonathan Mayo ✔ @JonathanMayo

Another @Redsox relief prospect, Jamie Callahan, is another apparently headed to @Mets for A. Reed. Red Sox top 30: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017/?list=bos

It appears that reliever Gerson Bautista is one of the prospects heading from @RedSox to @Mets in A. Reed deal

That's be a perfectly acceptable trade.
